why do people hate the canucks so much? - PhillySportsGuy
Many, many reasons. Burrows, Lapierre, Kesler, Sedins, etc. Also, a couple of my buddies are big Canucks fan |

I don't hate them, per se, but I have a friend that is a Hawks fan that hates them.
He reminds me of me when I talk about the Penguins, so it probably has to do with diving, baiting officials, cheap hits, etc. - johndewar
It's a shame we don't get to see too much of the west coast teams. I liked the old schedule more. Too much of the pens, rags, isles and devils |

If you get Buff you'll nee the McDonalds to keep him happy.
 - FlyersGrace
I'm still working on the details for my idea, namely a comparison of the length of Buff's contract, versus how long one can stay reasonably healthy while maintaining enough body mass to fill an entire NHL net.
Three years might be stretching it. |

If by "it" you mean "a size-72 Flyers jersey," then yes, Buff would be stretching it. |

Another great blog, Bill.
The length of the contracts for Streit and Vinny is the trade-off for not expending any hockey assets to get them.
Incremental contract growth on existing players, with the exception of Read, will most likely be covered by the increase in next year's cap (hopefully at least 80% or more).
Assuming comparable replacements are available, expiring contracts should cover the cost of those replacements. The assumption that comparable replacements will be available is the problem.
Based upon the trade rumors floated before the draft, is it reasonable to assume that the Flyers have fully vetted the trade values of Coburn, Read, Mesz and, possibly, Coots? Now that the draft is over, have those values changed?
Was Jones dropping to 4th a relative surprise, thus leaving Nashville no choice but to draft the best player available? Would they be open to trading him? Would they be open to trading him to the Flyers? I have a jones for Jones and think that if he could potentially be our next Howe/Desjardins/Pronger, we need to take a swing. Most Cup winners have that stud defenseman. However, in any trade, I would like to see an equivalent number of assets coming back.
For $hi!$ and giggles, say Mez, Coots and Read for Jones, 2014 and 2015 1st and 2nd (one pick each year, our choice of round in 2014 with the 2015 being the other round, if that makes sense), or just one pick with the 2nd being a roster player.
Leaves you the ability to sign Gagne and possibly Thomas if so inclined. - GeorgeBailey
I think the Preds are desperate for forwards. If I was Poile I would listen to an offer of Couturier, Read, Coburn for Jones and 2014 first.

That wouldnt alieve the log jam at center then. - youarewrong
I'd prefer to go with Giroux, Vinny, Couts, and Laughton for a few seasons as our centers. If need be, I'd move Laughton to 3rd line wing, if he develops and requires more ice time. I'm all for keeping BSchenn and seeing if he can transition to LW. You look at the teams in the finals this season, and you see a few lines have more than one natural center on them. Utilizing Laughton and BSchenn as wingers down the road isn't a horrible idea. |

i think it's important that the team keeps Schenn at wing. Even if Vinny gets injured, I would rather move Coots up and Laughton to 3rd line C. I don't want to see Schenn moved back and forth. |

No where near the 200 million that NPR (National Public Radio, government funded) spent on a state of the art building in the middle of DC. At least the Coyotes create jobs for Glendale. NPR just spews the president's agenda. |

I like Jones, but to say that is implying that Poile believes that Jones will turn water into wine.
Youarewrong is right....Nashville will need to be REALLY good in shoot-outs in order to win all of those 0-0 games. |

Is capgeek being weird for anyone else? It won't show the options on each player's tile for trading them, buying them out, demoting them, etc. So I can't actually do anything with the roster |

why 11?
yeah good way to look at it. my biggest gripe with this team has been trading away kids and picks for veterans. making moves like this are fine with me. I look forward to watching Steit and Lecavalier play. having the kids play with a guy like Lecavalier is also fine in my book. Say what you want about the Flyers but they don't worry about money and I will always love being a fan of a team that is like that. they ate 25 million dollars in buyouts. I do hope they learn to be patient with young players and keep their picks. that is my sole complaint - nastyflyergirl
i have no idea. he didn't say.
agree. and we'll soon find out if homer's going to do anything more than moving coburn or mesz to free up space and land a goalie. i hope not. i like that we went heavy on d in the draft and he's publicly talked about being patient with young dmen. we've got some decent talent in the pipeline, hopefully we get to see them develop. |

First of all it was Schenn, couturier+. Second, the Preds view Jones as a franchise Dman. They won't be trading him unless they get multiple young forwards. Read is set to expire after this season. THey won't want that. They covet team controlled players. THink of them as the Tampa Bay Rays of hockey. |
