The only thing that concerns me, from your team's standpoint, is the length of the deal.
His first year or two there he will be very good but his health history and age start to become a little bit of a factor in year three. - MidnightMarauder
according to you, the flyers are a "joke" franshise, so i'm not sure why you're concerned about anything having to do with them. |

Yawn, another troll. Your team just signed two players than older than Hartnell to four year deals and now have 48 million tied up in 8 players for next season. Go discuss that on your own board. - Feanor
Give up the troll thing its pathetic, not to mention the lone dorkiest thing ever uttered on the internet.
Fans of other teams are not allowed to talk in this thread, that's pretty sad you cant take other fans opinions.
Hartnell seemed to be a team killer last year with his awful penalties and didn't seem to be the effective player that he once was.

I wish you would give up the troll thing. You don't see me going on the Pens board to ask why they haven't bought Fleury out yet.
I dont think he was trolling at all... - jak521
Claiming Hartnell is done at 31 because of a bad half season where he missed a lot of games with a broken foot seems like trolling to me. |

i think he'll ask for 3.5-4 mm for 2yrs...what he'll get, i dunno - isaiah520
really? no thanks. I'd be reluctant to give him 2 years, but for a lower cap hit, i'd do it - no more than 2/5. |

Right but I'm not trying to defend Homer, more of a "wait and see" outlook on him. That said, what is the measure of good - never making mistakes or making mistakes and learning from them? One could argue your point about contingency plans as everything that comes after Pronger going down is now a contingency plan. - shekkie
he still hasn't acquired that top pair potential dman and it's killing this team in terms of creating a ceiling. let's see what he can do going forward. |

Not sure how any Flyer fan thinks this is bad?... They missed the playoffs, they were not any good last year....so you make moves to get better.....First it was Streit....now It's Vinny.....
We have scene the additions ...now we will see a couple of subtractions......there are two D men who's salary equal north of 10 million dollars .....who will not be back next year....the cap is expected to jump to over 70 million!!!!!!...... Frankly people who think the cap is a problem have no concept of where it is going to go and how quickly it's going to get there....here's a prediction.....by year 5 of Crosby's and Malkins deals they will be considered under paid by a lot......
Vinny is a classy vet who still has some real good years ahead of him....Streit is a puck moving d man that is precisely what the Flyers lacked last year....I don't always like Homers moves but these two are addressing needs that had to be addressed..... |

Yes, because the owner who was reluctant to see Bob Clarke replaced will obviously fire Homer for making moves that he, the owner, demanded and are thus his own fault. Makes perfect sense.
It's a wonder Mr. Snider allows Pronger to scout for the team since Pronger's eye is the source of his -- and the Flyers' -- issues since November 2011. - Flyskippy
how he acquired bryz is as bad as anything. it set the stage for failure. ed can jump up and down all he wants, but homer has to say, 'if you want him, let me acquire him the right way'...and that means reading the mkt properly and negotiating like a pro instead of the amateur hour we witnessed. that makes sense. |

why are you guys always trying to trade Coburn. Yes he's very frustrating has the talent to be so much better. But he still is pretty good and is very reasonable in todays market at 4.5mil. |

anybody else think the Flyers will move Talbot. I think him and his 1.75 cap hit will be gone. With the addition of Lecavalier the Flyers are now loaded down the middle with Giroux, Schenn, Couturier and last years 1st round pick Scott Laughton. - 215mike
I'd be stunned if they moved Talbot. Talbot is probably better at wing, anyway. |

My thoughts on Lecavalier:
Pros: Very good player to have; scores, hits, wins faceoffs, brings leadership and veteran presence to the locker room plus good price at $4.5 million per.
Cons: I'm not a fan of the 5 year deal (although I understand that without the additional years the cap hit would be higher). Lecavalier is an old 33. He came into the league at 18 and peaked at 26 plus has missed a good chunk of games the past few seasons.
I just feel like this signing represents the lack of organizational direction the Flyers have shown. It seems like they jumped on him because he was a big name and a good player. I feel like this strategy isn't working. After all, we haven't won a Cup in almost 40 years. |
|
|
|
I'm ok with the Lecavalier signing. The cap hit is very reasonable, not a fan of the length, or the full NMC, but that might have been what it took to get the deal done.
No debating Lecavalier makes the Flyers instantly better, big capable center who is solid at the dot, ES, and on special teams.
The moves that might be made to accommodate this move could be tough to swallow. I'm hoping it's as easy as clearing Meszaros cap hit, to bring a goaltender in, but my guess is it is going to be more complex than that. |

too many players on the team that plays his position. He'll be a 4th liner on this team. He could go to a young team that needs a veteran center. |

criticism of homer at this juncture is warranted. he just paid a goalie $39 MM for 2yrs of work and last off season was wretched. the team has been headed backwards since 2010 and while the pronger injury played the major role in this decline, it's not as if the flyers have shown the ability to formulate contingency plans. he certainly can regain some luster w/ a good off season, but it will prob be his last if the team misses the plyoffs. - isaiah520
Just the Pronger injury would have been fine..... Its the other dozen+ injuries over each of the last two seasons that killed us. 8 concussions in 2011-12 was only the beginning.... Hartnell, Briere, Grossmann, Mez, Coburn, Gus, Timonen, + last season. A healthy flyers team.... That's all I want this season. |

I don't think it's a "want to" thing. It's a "have to" thing.
They need to clear space. Coburn could actually fetch a decent return, unlike Mez, who is suddenly made of glass.
All in all, I'd rather they find a way to keep Coburn, but it may not be possible to do so. |

I don't like this move. Much better free agents next year. Once again, the Flyers will be fighting to get cap compliant for years to come. I would rather have 5 more years of Matt Read than 5 years of Vinny. |

Meh
I don't think Coburn in going anywhere unless they get a great return. It is Meszaros who will be dealt. Probably for a 3rd or 4th round pick.
