Well you gotta realize that Edler won't be our defenseman of the next decade +, but of the next 5-7 years. We only need him long enough for our young guns (Morin, Hagg, Alt, Ghost, Lauridsen) to reach the NHL and reach their potentials. |

Coveted players love this 2 day courting process. Many will make their decision tonight which will impact tomorrow's free agent frenzy. |

I Imagine Timonen plays through tremendous pain every year and seems to do just fine. Not saying the Flyers should be trading for damaged goods. If nothing else, the Sixers taught us that. |

I think that Friday they announce a deal with Thomas for 1 year at $3mm. Too many stars seem to be aligning for it not to happen - Jsaquella
at that price i honestly can't say i have an issue with it |

With a wonky back, the cost and the cap amount will be too much for my liking. |

Trading away the youth, and that youth going on to win the cup.
If they trade away young guys this time I hope its for young guys in return as you suggested. - aosplayo
Yup..I know what you mean..
Richards(26) and Carter (26)
in return they got
Simmonds (22), Schenn (19), Voracek (21), Couturier (18)
Those are the two biggest trades they have done recently.... Certainly they didn't trade away for youth..
The biggest recent trade is
JVR (23) for L Schenn (21)
Go back 7 seasons and you could look at the Coburn (21) for Zhitnick (mid 30s trade) ..yup..that one they didn't do it right either..
I get it..They should have never traded Sharpe..I disagree with a lot of the trades Clarke made but that hasn't been relevant for many years now.. |

I'm not sure if "fine" is the right description for how Timo feels night in and night out. At times his play is severely limited and it shows.
I'm not sure if Elder is built along the same lines, both mentally and physically as Timo is. If he has the same warrior mentality that Timo has. I doubt if but a very few people do. |

Edler is not a similar guy to Mez. Mez isn't even fit to skate on the same ice Edler does. He's about 3 tiers above Mez. He hits hard, a skates smoothly, he can quarterback a PP with the best of them, and he plays shutdown D. There is just no comparison between him and Mez. There are no health questions. He had a back problem, he fixed it. Some nights he feels a little stiff, but like Timonen he battles through it because he's a warrior. |

Homer has rarely lost trades. The only time he's gotten into trouble is trading away players to get cap compliant. At worst he breaks even on trades. The Flyers are happy with their haul from the Carter Richards deals and so are the Kings. Leafs are happy about the JVR Schenn trade. I have a feeling Schenn will end up being the better player. - PhillySportsGuy

Per Jason Botchford @botchford (via Michael Stuart blog)
@THECooop $7m for 7 players, incl tanev and a C. They'll continue to listen to edler. will take player for now, elite prospect, 2 more +'s
Maybe 2 players for now (Read and Coburn) and 3 more +'s would interest them, since we don't actually have any "elite" prospects. |

B Schenn is no speedster, either. - bmeltzer
Bill,
Everyone is saying that it is best to put a speedy winger on Vinnie's line, but most are thinking Schenn and Simmonds. I think Read is a better fit. Who on the current roster do you like to start with Vinnie? |

You conveniently left out the Pronger trade which is arguably the biggest of Holmgren's tenure... - phillydentist
That was a good trade. Remember when Pronger took us to the finals in his first year here? And when he was named our captain? And how he's still an off ice leader, despite being permanently injured? Ya that's why. |

I said rarely. If I were grading out Homer's GM skills, I would give him very high marks for trades. |
