Now Simmonds is going to be mad that he won't be the only black guy on the team.. i don't know if that's a good move.

I always liked Emery, I wouldn't mind him back.

I have concerns based on Bill Meltzer's comments that Emery's quickness side to side is suspect, due to his injuries. With a team like the Flyers, and the chances they give up, it could be an issue. But I would not be surprised in the least if Emery is back with the Flyers.

I love Ray Emery. Love him! I was over the moon he signed here his first go around. I was convinced he was our goalie of the future and our next Hextall. Sadly he was set back and the vision of mine is dead. Either way, I would love to have him for the next three seasons. Total mature turn around since Ottawa.

He would be a great addition.

Ray Emery very likely moving on from Chicago, looking for bigger role, chance at 1 or 1a spot. I'd put Philly as front-runner.

Please yes , loved him first go around and think he deserves all the credit for making it back from the hip injury.

Can't move any slower than Bryz side to side.

What about his rookie season? What do his PK numbers look like then?
- PhillySportsGuy

2011-2012 Goals Against Per 60 (on PK -- higher number means more goals allowed):

Read:6.45
Coots: 6.27
G: 6.26
Talbot: 5.95
Wellwood 3.33

But in this instance, it is worth noting that Coots faced better opposition than most of his mates versus this past season...

I couldn't agree more. I think this signing will be a disaster. I think they need to be looking Halak instead. I'm ok with no Tim Thomas, but a guy that had a rare degenerative hip issue would be a major concern.

I think last season is more of an outlier. He seemed to fit in fine during his rookie year. He seemed to have quite a bit of bad luck last year as well with shooting percentages. The changing of his linemates also hurt.

If he's healthy, I like his game...he certainly seemed to prove himself last season, albeit behind a top caliber SCup winning team...I just hope he's not going to demand long term and big $$ (longer than 3 yrs, more than 3 mil)...

If its short term and reasonable money then it should be fine. They do have Mason is a big athlete. Emery is more reliable if Mason reverts back to his post Calder Columbus days.

Both players should benefit from splitting time.

Halak has his injury concerns also. Halak would have to be traded for. Emery just costs money and Cap space. Regardless of what Goalie they bring in. If the Flyers don't drastically improve overall defensively. It may not matter.

Yea. They will both push each other to be better. I just hope one of them stands out as the clear top goalie on the team. The last thing this team needs is a playoff goalie controversy

yeah, I don't think he was put in the best of positions in terms of his confidence and development...which kind of goes to Lavy again. I question the wisdom of putting a 19/20 yr old player into those spots, against some of the tougher competition in the NHL (5 v 5)...he did ok at times, and occasionally showed you something nice, but he definitely had his struggles with the role at times. I'm hoping they can find some more favorable situations to put him in, in order to spur his confidence and foster growth.

There were a lot of factors involved. Couturier seemed to get frustrated and lost focus at some points. He had a lot of hard luck offensively, and that frustration seemed to leak into his overall game. Not to mention that the team overall was pretty bad defensively. It's amazing he did as well as he did defensively. Shows how talented and special he is in that area. There is no doubt that he has Selke level potential.

Emery will be good for 1-2 yrs splitting time with Mason. I really really believe in Mason and think he is going to be the goalie that he was / was supposed to be. Even though it was a small sample at the end of the season, he looked really promising. I think, hope, believe that he is our future.
