Yes. Instead of paying possibly the most talented player the team has every had (not to mention the captain) what he's worth, let's trade him and hope one of the players in the deal is just as good. But wait, nevermind. That player will eventually want market value payment as well. Oh well, let's just fold the team.

Right now maybe you make that argument..

Last full season he was one of the 3 highest point men in the league and in what everyone considered a down year this season was on pace for almost a point a game. At the age of 25 he is the most dynamic player this team has had since the first season of Foppa and Lindros before that. Plus I see he and Voracek as being the only 2 untouchable players on this team.

I have no issues with them locking him up at that price now if they can get the next 8 years of Giroux in his prime.
