If he wins a cup here, the money won't matter. - dingo8urbaby
Like I said... Lindros and Pronger... We definitely overpaid to get both I'd like to see us do that to a team and make it count for a change. |

So are you talking about overpaying money or overpaying trade value?
If it's trade value, we have done that.
The Forsberg trade (Upshall, Parent, Timonen, and Hartnell)
Zhitnik for Coburn

Both we overpay to get and then to keep. Agreed he's a hot commodity but the way the flyers draft forwards I'm not worried a bit about parting ways with one. |

Again, he's arguably the most skilled forward in team history, and he is able to up his play when it matters most in the post season. I'll gladly pay the man the money he commands to lock him up for 8 years with an ever-rising salary cap. |

If he continues to play a high level, the older he get's the cheaper the deal becomes. If he would play towards Free Agency, the price would go up. He's locked up, and now they don't have to worry about it. They can plan around their best player, and not have to guess what it's going to cost them for the player.

Ok well that hasn't worked out too well for the team every time they've put their eggs in one basket. Also they desperately need goaltending and a stud defender but let's overpay for a forward. |

A few things that piss me off...
Elias at 5.5mil on an over-35 contract until he's 40. As mentioned, no negative comments because Lou offered it. Lecavalier at 4.5mil isn't the griping point of many, it's the 5 years until he's 38. It's an under-35 contract to boot. Streit for 4 years on an over-35 contract, until he's 39, for a guy with a lot less miles than the average 35 year old defenseman. Homer gets cut up on those deals.
For all the crap we get about Homer signing players long-term, then trading them when their new, pricey deals kick in. Seguin's new 6-year, 5.7mil per year deal starts next season. Gets traded today to Dallas, at age 21. Where's the negativity about that on that transaction for Chiarelli? None existent. Homer gets cut up about Carter, Richards, and JVR.
Homer isn't a perfect GM, not even in the top 10 in the league I'd guess. But he is aggressive, makes bold moves, and doesn't lose out on many trades. Would we rather be a budget team, make no moves, hope to make the playoffs the odd year, maybe, MAYBE once in a decade or two make a real run at the Cup? Pick your poison, I'm a Flyers fan for life.

Again, it's not overpaying. It's paying what he commands. But yes, let's just go....acquire Lundqvist and Weber somehow. |

You mean to tell me they couldn't move him for at least one of those positions but he's worth 8 mil a year for the rest of the decade? |

Joe, look at it as locking up you're stud Center for 8 years. How is that a bad thing? |

The market was set for G with Getzlaf and Staal were signed. The price will only go up when it is projected the cap could go up as much as $6 million. Can you imagine how much Stamkos will be getting when his deal is up in the 3 years and I believe he will be only 27? They may have to offer him minority ownership in the team to keep him.
If G stays healthy and continues to play to his level, his cap hit will be just fine and not a huge cap burden as the cap continues to rise because the fans haven't and won't stay away from the game. Good luck, to the smaller revenue franchises to keep pace. You will start to see a lot more Josi signings in the future as a way for smaller market teams to compete in retaining perceived top talent longer. |

I'm on my Iphone so you'll just have to visualize my intended response ... Stevens ending lindros's tenure as a flyer...
It's not the end of the world, however like I said I'd rather use any of these forwards to fix the deficiencies at goaltending and defense which have plagued us for a long time. |

Well I personally wouldn't use Giroux to fix any deficiencies on the team. Because that would only create another deficiency. Any player can get hurt. I don't see that as a reason to not lock up their best player. |

Problem is you can take Streit's contract and Lecavalier's as a trade off. Lecavalier might be a steal but Streit isn't. |

F in right. Briere still gets 4 mil per!! Has there been a worse even strength player in the last 4 years?? Smurf Habs at it again. What a great day!
Elias at 5.5
Vinny at 4.5
Boom goes the coburn for a 1st +. Top 10 pick again here we go

The flyers pick up quality forwards the way sailors pick up hookers. I wouldn't lose an ounce of sleep. Is he good yes but he's not 8 mil a year good IMO |

Just for discussion purposes, was Lindros the reason the Flyers never won the cup during his tenure, or was Bob Clarke the GM not as great as Bobbie Clarke the hockey player? |

8.25 for giroux....7.5 a pipe dream folks.
Pretty confident this won't be a full NMC. I'll take the higher cap hit 8 days a week. Plus still a year left to trade him! |

A little bit of both. Either way the team we traded to sure did pretty good after they dumped him on us. |

That's his value though. E Staal and Getzlaf are making similar money and I would take G over the both of them. |

I still dont see why you would trade him....he is the face of the franchise and that's what star players are going for....not surprising and not a big deal once the cap goes up next year |
