Thats a good thing though, i guess. If we sign Emery for 2 yrs and Mason poops the bed this season, we will still have Emery for one more year and Mason can walk, if he does good i'm sure he'll be rewarded with an extension. - idiotsallofu

Good point.
In fact, icing a professional hockey team hasn't done squat for us in 37 years. We should try not having one this year. You know, change things up. |

I would like to see Laughton at least split the draws with Hall. Just use Hall on defensive zone and some offensive zone. I'm assuming they play on the same line. - PhillySportsGuy
lots of centers means having two on the ice for key D zone draws , so when one gets waved off the dot the other jumps in
I like this strategy |

I think the plan is to let Laughton develop for another year. Who knows. |

Love that strategy. Flyers did that late in the season with Hall and Giroux. Win the draw, clear the puck, send G off the ice. |

Nah, we need to make sure Jay Rosehill has time to develop in the NHL. Wouldn't want to have to sit a young promising star like him when we could just send Laughton to juniors until he's 50 (gotta save those ELC years). |

I think his best development would be done in the NHL and not Juniors. We will see him in pre-season and the 9 game audition. I have a feeling he will let us know if he's ready. Good players usually do. |

I'm sure he will get a good look in training camp. The small 5 game sample he had last year he certainly didn't look out of place.
Tomorrow should be interesting. |

L1 - Giroux
L2 - Vinny, BSchenn
L3 - Couts, Talbot, Read
L4 - Laughton, Hall
Those would be guys who can take faceoffs with experience as centers. |

Yep. I'm sure he's going to be given the chance to make the team. If he plays well enough he will make it. |

Bill's blog actually lays out, in detail, why the Flyers will be fine signing Coots and Schenn next year. The player up in the air is possibly Read.
I'm assuming the Pens will look to trade Paul Martin next offseason to make room. They only have 9 players UC for 2014-15 and they're at 49M. |

Okay, I thought I did answer your question that there are indications that the cap will increase significantly next summer with all the fans coming back from the latest lockout and the addition of what 6 outdoor games. Hence, the projections of the cap rising up to $6 million dollars.
The projections for the NHL revenue this year (shortened season) are expected to be around $2.4 billion.
Let's dive a little further. Already with the way B. Schenn's contract is written, he is counting $3.1 million against the cap. His next contract he will not see a significant bump in actual cap hit, but "yes" in actual pay. Coots is currently at $1.375 million. Let's go crazy and say he gets a "bridge deal" similar to G's. So at most, B. Schenn and Coots will cost maybe an additional $2.5 million more. Gus was qualified at $1.1 million I believe. Do you expect him to have such an incredible year that he would get any more then a $2 million increase. Mason would have to win the Vezina to get anything more then that type of bump. Read should get an increase of around $3 million if he stays.
So let's do quick math is the Flyers would be spending at most around an additional $15 million for current players on the roster to be reupped while losing $10 million in salaries (Mez and Kimmo) with a projected increase in the cap of nearly $6 million. It's really not that difficult.
As I have mentioned before, it is safe to assume that Shero feels confident in the increasing cap projections to have 3 players signed over $7 million. |

Really have no clue which direction they will go. Looks like Emery will be the choice. The guys you mention are interesting. I would avoid Thomas and Nabakov. |

Sounds fair
Yeah, Shero is very confident the cap will go up as you said. It wasn't a hard choice to lock up 2 of the top 3 players in the NHL and one top 5-8 d-man. We are lucky to have them for at least 9 years each. |
