Bill's blog actually lays out, in detail, why the Flyers will be fine signing Coots and Schenn next year. The player up in the air is possibly Read.
I'm assuming the Pens will look to trade Paul Martin next offseason to make room. They only have 9 players UC for 2014-15 and they're at 49M. - PhillySportsGuy
Paulie ain't going nowhere. He was our best defenseman this year.

Our team looks pretty good right now. We have some very good d-men coming from the AHL in a couple years too. |

As a Canadian I would like to see Laughton in the WJC.
Speaking of WJC will any other prospects be playing this year other than Ghost, Hagg and maybe Stolarz as backup? |

Yeah, Shero is very confident the cap will go up as you said. It wasn't a hard choice to lock up 2 of the top 3 players in the NHL and one top 5-8 d-man. We are lucky to have them for at least 9 years each. - Orpik44
Shero made the right decision no doubt in my opinion to retain Letang. You have to keep those 3 building blocks and figure out the rest. |

it's cool that Pitt re upped with Letang and Kunitz and Dupuis because I feel like I know these guys and hate them for what they are. Bringing in new players, you have to learn to hate them. Like Pens getting Iginla for the play offs, that sucked, because how can you hate him? |

How do you feel about Bylsma blowing the Olympics for the U.S ? - idiotsallofu
I hope he doesn't. The players around the league like him though. |

Sounded for a while that both sides of the Shero/Letang camps were a little cranky during the negotiations. Just posturing or was there some genuine bitterness? |

Iginla was a guy I wanted to see back but it came down to choosing between him and Dupuis, who's a very good all around player and helps on 5 on 5 and PK.
Dupuis $3.75M and Kunitz $3.85M were pretty good deals. They took paycuts to stay and that says a lot about their character. |

it's the crosby factor
there is no doubt they fit well with him, and that he makes both those wingers better players
so they take less then they would get on another team, but they have success playing on sid's line
it works out well for everyone |

They were great deals. Pitt really doesn't have the cap issues people claim either.
Pitt can be knocked for the assets lost at the trade deadline for basically nothing
Oh well |

There's a sports writter guy called Rob Rossi. You may have heard about him before. He can be a douche. He was the one making up this stuff. Maybe Letang hurt his feelings after management said that Paul Martin was our best d-men this year, maybe not. Letang said he didn't want to go anywhere and we are glad he re-signed. |

Lebrun:
• Ray Emery is likely leaving Chicago, where he loved it, to procure a job that will give him a bigger role. He’s not going to get that behind Corey Crawford with the Blackhawks. Philadelphia and Edmonton are among the teams that have reached out and I think the Flyers are the odds-on favorite to get him, Emery and the Flyers comfortable with each other after their time spent together before. If the Flyers do get him, Emery will get to compete for starts with Steve Mason. |

The good thing about those deals:
Dupuis is top 5 in the NHL in even strenght goals in the last few years. He doesn't get any PP time but still manages to score quite a bit. Awesome PKer.
Kunitz is a guy we'd love to "duplicate". He does very well with Sid or Geno. We all love his tenacity and work on the boards. He can chip in too.

What do you guys think about GRABOVSKI?
If I could, I'd pack Sutter to CGY just to get Grabo signed as our 3rd line C. |

Yes, he did look slow. He also looked out of place. Bylsma never gave him a chance to play o Crosby's RW, his real position. He also took him off the PP. Amazing |

I love dupuis' game. And he's a damn good player minus the Crosby factor. I was hoping he'd move on

I wouldn't mind signing Em to a reasonable contract.
Mason wouldn't feel pressured early on to carry the team by regaining his rookie form immediately, and Em wouldn't have to run his hip back into the ground playing the lion's share of the games.
I think they could create a nice balance between them.
