A fairly rare trade in that it does seem to benefit both teams quite well.
TS may end up being the most complete player from this trade.. but as it stands right now.. great value on both sides. |

This is the problem with drafting players younger than 21, none (or very few) have had the time to do the stupid things teenagers in high school do that we all warn our kids about. The thing is, with hockey, in bantam and major junior where most of these kids go if they're serious about making the NHL tend to end up having a year round hockey schedule where either they're playing games, practicing, or training to improve and get ready for the next season. Most of them end up not going to high school, or at least not regularly. It's hard to make friends and hard to have a life and do the normal teenage things that most of us do or have done. Also, hockey players tend to have the reputation as being more clean cut (because most players are Canadian and we're known for being polite, soft-spoken, etc.) unlike basketball and football stars who tend to be larger than life and are known for displays of bling and that whole lifestyle. |

NBA and NFL are more likely to come from a poor neighborhood.. playing hockey is typically a middle to high class sport.. as it is very expensive. The upbringings tend to be fairly different.
Thats why you have aaron hernandez getting life in prison.... and tyler seguin being ripped apart for partying the night before a game.
Its tough to criticize.. but at the same time.. these guys are playing hockey for what?.. 7-9 months of the year.. that leaves at the very least 3-5 months where you can party.. club it up.. and be more wreck-less in the off season. |

Not if you're serious about making the NHL, trust me, most of these kids are in the gym or working out with personal trainers/skill instructors almost every day in order to increase their draft ranking.

I am a huge Loui Erickson fan. he will lead the b's in scoring next year watch. He was a back to back 70 pt guy in Dallas before a down year last year. Seguin was super over rated in my opinion. He was a 3rd line winger for the bruins in the whole playoffs. When Bergeron got injured they played some other bum at Center and kept seguin on the 3rd line wing not even Center. People can talk about the kessel trade all they want but I would not trade Kessel for Seguin one for one. |

I don't think many would. He may prove us wrong in a couple of years but not right now. |

Hamilton - RF_4eva
Hamilton was a 6th d man for the bruins. Still young but both Bartowski and Krug played ahead of him. Trade is still too young to evaluate but based on the performance of all parties involved its not even close right now. Kessel over the last 2 years is a top 6 scorer in the NHL. That is super elite company.
Not saying he is a top 10 player in this league but the reality is he scores and he scores a lot and consistently every year he has been in this league. His only playoff appearance he played very well. He isnt the guy to lead the team and I would never take him to be the captain of anything but when you score like that guy hard to knock him. Dont care what he is like defensively.

High ceiling players but no production out of them yet, yes. To be honest, yeah kessel can produce but thats because he gets the puck a lot on a team that is still developing their talent. Seguin was stuck on a great team that gave him third line minutes. Now he will get 1st line time with an all star sniper in benn. I wouldnt be surprised if he produces more than a point per game because now he is getting first line time that kessel has recieved the past years. |

Very valid point. Jaime Benn is a BEAST. Love the way that guy plays. One thing also Kessel has done all this production with tyler bozak as a center. Could you imagine if he had Hank or a decent center with him that wasnt Tyler "I suck so bad" Bozak. I think Kessel with a proper 1st line center could easily be a 40 Goal scorer and maybe dare I say 50. |

Sguin put up 67 point in his first full year. He outproduced Eriksson last year. He is a talented kid. Younger players get put in lower roles all the time. Clearly the Bruins weren't happy with him. I remember Spezza having a hard time cracking the Sens lineup. Doesn't make them any less talented.
Kessel is a good player who is certainly succeeding in a staring role. Seguin is 4 years younger. He will be a star too. |

A friend of mine owns a bunch of bars in the city... He says Kassian goes off like Seguin. The kids are young and loaded, I'd do the same.
Apparently after the season they were out at his bar and Kesler was laying into kassian about his partying and settling down. Kesler is one to talk. - Scooby_Doo
3 out of the last 4 cups are Chicago and LA. You can't tell me those teams don't have a number of players who have fun and get off the rails occasionally.
Doesn't seem to be affecting their success. |

I think Seguin is a very good player and possibly a franchise great player. So far he started with a bang but has regressed a lot from where he was 2 years ago and even last year. I hope he turns it around in Dallas and becomes a stud with Benn. I just think Kessell gets a brutal rap from Van fans because he plays in TO. All he does is score and with crappy linemates thats all. If the leafs get a guy like statsny to pair with him and JVR next year who knows what will happen. |

If anyone pays bozak more than 4 mill a year they are morons and he will be getting bought out in a 1 year. His stats are so inflated playing 1st line minutes in TO. |

It's the night before NHL Christmas.... and the Canucks' Mike Gillis has done jack s***! Aside from buying out Ballard (which was Gillis' bad deal in the first place), all the Canucks have done is lose our goalie of the future (Schneider), obtain some great players for the future in the draft, and piss off the alleged #1 goalie (Luongo). I don't think Canucks' fans Christmas is going to be all that wonderful.
As for your blog Ian, I like Broda, Brent, and Halischuk. I am also amazed at why Halischuk was given the boot. He is an underrated player.
The Canucks need to do a couple of big deals here: trades, UFA signings, whatever. Move Booth, who has been useless for his $4+million per year. We can afford to trade a defenseman or two. Edler's value is good. I'd hate to lose
Bieksa, but if we get a great player back, so be it. If Luongo decides to stay, there is no need to sign a veteran backup. I believe Lack and Eriksson can battle it out and make good backups.
Gillis needs to make a major move tomorrow. Should he fail to do
so, I will be creating a petition to the Canucks' owners to have him fired and replaced ASAP. I'm sure I could get 10,000 signatures in 7 days. |

I agree. We need to move some of our d for Offense. We love how strong our d is but thats why we have an ELITE Goalie. If our d is sooo good why do we need such a good goalie. We need offense. We are 2 -10 in our last 12 playoff games and we cant score any goals. i would trade any of our d guys depending on the return to get some studs offensively.
