I have been a huge supporter of Gillis and his decisions still am but I am also having some concerns. The draft makes things palpable. Other indiscretions not so much.
As for Schroeder he has NHL speed can win faceoffs in the NHL he has a NHL caliber shot and the skill to be here. His back checking and play in his own zone has improved 10 fold over the last 2 seasons. He lacks in size and needs to make big adjustments to his game to be a consistent contributor in the league. I like many see more positives in his game than negatives at this point.
Lets have a vote Raymond or Schroeder? - thundachunk
Schroeder, although I'm far from convinced that he can compete at theNHL level but Raymond proved he couldn't stay on his feet for an entire shift.
The question is kind of like asking if you prefer herpes over syphilis. |

Elias gets three more years at $5.5m/per, at age 37 WOW. He's still productive, but if Canucks fans are hoping to get the Sedins at less than the $6mil they are earning now on short term deals I think we will be in for disappointment. |

Especially as the cap will likely go up quite a bit next year. |

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if they were to resign another 1 year deal at the same or a bit less, knowing they want to play together it really would limit their options to go to another team as UFA's. The flip side of this is that they may decide after a year of Torts that they'd rather play in Sweden, which I guess opens up a huge chunk of cap space but the way the ufa market has been going I wouldn't count on talent coming in from there.
such a trashy bunch of ufas this year. Every one of them has question marks yet wants huge dollars. |

What is "3rd line"? Where is it written that the forwards playing the "third most minutes" have to be a "checking" line? Saying that Schroeder can't play on the "3rd line" is redonkulous. A good coach who understood his skills and abilities should be able to play him with compatible players in situations that he would be likely to succeed in.
Way rather have Schroeder at almost $2million less than Raymond. - 1970vintage
I'm not disagreeing with you but it would best benefit him to play with top line players. He would still be the key goal scoring contributor on a 3rd line especially with Hansens speed. He would fit very well with both Hansen and Higgins. I think at this point though he would benefit more from playing on one of the top lines. Sh!t Kassian played with the Sedins look how much he improved(until he was back in the AV doghouse). Great players make good players better and take young players and make them NHler's. |

Meh, the same can be said about pretty much everyone. No one questions Kesler's talent and yet look how productive he's been with a revolving door of average line mates. I think Schroeder is as capable as any player they could sign for the same dollars, which is going to be right around a million. |

They would have a TONNE of options if they went to UFA next year. The cap's going up and this year's free agent crop is horrible. Teams will still have buyouts available next year too (assuming they don't spend both this year).
If they don't like playing for Tortorella they will not go back to Sweden. They want to win a Stanley Cup and they are super competitive. They want to play and win in the best league in the world. |

who's going to give them 12 million dollars against the cap next year? Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought under this new CBA the cap was staying at 64 mil for two years. I believe the actual split of revenue lowers the players share to 57 mil or something close this year but because of the negotiations they bumped it to 64 mil. I keep reading these assumptions the cap will go up to 70 mil next year but that's a dangerous gamble. I honestly do not see a team close to the cup having 12 mil to spend on two players who have been (fairly or not) bashed for their performance in the playoffs. They're certainly not going to go to a rebuilding team that would have the cap space, so as I see it, they either resign in Vancouver for the same or a bit less, or head home to Sweden.

this is what's absolutely shocking. The lack of depth compared to the 2011 team is night and day. The key players are still there, but the depth around them has almost completely disappeared. - Isles_since_6

You are wrong.
The cap was $64M last season and next season. It will go up for 2014. At that point, adding the Sedins as 2nd line players to a team that already has a really good core can turn a team into a cup contender. If teams don't have space for them, they will have the ability to make it if they can sign the Sedins.
They have also said they'll only sign 1 year deals from now on, so they could easily take below market value for a shot to win the cup. |

Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.

They had their chance in game 7, I didn't see much want or super competitiveness then, they'll go back to Sweden or sign a short tem deal at a lower rate (5 mil). I think they owe a lot to Van. for allowing them to play together all their career, thay's why they give back to the city and province. |

Exactly, the cap will be no where near 70mil. 65-66 maybe, remember all these buyouts count against the players share. |

So they lose game 7 and they quit and go back to Sweden when their contract's up??? I doubt very much that they leave Vancouver, but if they do it won't be to go back to Sweden.
They don't owe Vancouver anything "for allowing them to play together" their whole careers. They took below market value contracts to do so. |
