Exactly, the cap will be no where near 70mil. 65-66 maybe, remember all these buyouts count against the players share. - A_SteamingLombardi
Don't forget the NHL has all that window wiper money coming in now! |

Canucks talking with Blum's agent.
Would be an interesting pick up if they can get him for dirt cheap. |

So they lose game 7 and they quit and go back to Sweden when their contract's up??? I doubt very much that they leave Vancouver, but if they do it won't be to go back to Sweden.
They don't owe Vancouver anything "for allowing them to play together" their whole careers. They took below market value contracts to do so. - KB3Point0
Really I don't think 6.1 X 2 was below market. |

Anyone we pick up will have to come for dirt cheap. |

$6.1 was/is a good deal below market value.
Wasn't the Leafs brass on a plane to Sweden to make them $7.5m offers? |

What's market value for 2 players in their prime, who take 5 year contracts (not 8+) who win back to back scoring championships and MVP / Most Outstanding Player trophies? As UFAs they would easily have cracked $7M and likely gotten longer term. |

I think they would have got more considering the seasons they had prior. Looking at the most recent money being thrown around before and after the new CBA some team would have paid them a hefty ransom. |

Speaking of "market value" what's all this about Tanev being worth $2 million per (and I'm his biggest fan...)? The market's whack. |

I dunno, if you look at their cap hit comparables I would say they signed a pretty fair deal. Likely they could have gotten more on the open market, but the same could be said of pretty much every star player that has re-signed with their own team. |

Huge trade in the works. Boston and Dallas close on a deal sending Tyler Seguin to Stars for Loui Eriksson. Other parts involved as well.
Bummer - Whiskey-Tango
Am I reading in to this or is Seguin turning in to a bit of a head case or prima donna? |

It would be bizzaro world if Tanev got that much. I think he'll sign a deal so he is still an RFA at the end, 2 years, 3mil total 1.25/1.75. |

Anyone know if there's language in the CBA preventing Gillis from offering them hockey deals @ $4.5per and then Aquilini signing them to separate multi-million dollar endorsement contracts as the faces of his real estate developments?
... Not that I wanna see their giant ginger domes on billboards around the city, but you get the idea... |

I think Tanev will get $1.75M - 2M. Probably 2 or 3 years. If he gets an offer sheet it could go up to around $2.75M - $3M though. |

I'd suggest trading a franchise starting goalie and gutting the coaching staff counts...
And fielding offers for a core defenseman... |

Here are the players with comparable cap hits to the Sedins when they signed their extensions:
Cammalleri, Kariya, Elias, Giguere, Rafalski, goalie Backstrom, Zetterberg (12 year deal), Smyth, Miller, Pronger (signed 4 years earlier), Marleau.
The Sedins were far better than most of these players.
Guys with bigger cap hits included:
Jovanovski, Briere, Redden, Phaneuf, Stastny, Boyle, JBo.
Guys at over $7M included:
E. Staal, B. Richards, Heatley, Gaborik Gomez, Campbell, Vanek, Drury, Spezza, Iginla.
They left A LOT of money on the table by re-signing in Vancouver. |

Market value is what similar star players around the league sign for, not what you think is fair.
Like I said, rumours were that the Leafs were on their way to offer both $7+

If it was all about money for the Sedins they would have been gone. These two people care. They should retire as Canucks. Other than Linden these guys have done more for community of Vancouver than anyone. Elite hockey players and even better people. I would be sick to my stomach seeing them on a different team. They live here their families are here Vancouver is their home. We have gratefully accepted them into our community and they have returned that gratitude more than we ever could have hoped for on and off the ice. One sub par season (a half season no less)with a dipsh!t coach who lost the room and we talk of letting them go by trade or free agency because they are getting old and not as good as they used to be. For shame. You don't trade the soul of the team.
I realize its realistic that they could move on but every effort should be made to keep them. |

Something tells me if 2 of those other players insisted on playing together, they wouldn't have gotten the same cap hit they were given.
Making a commitment to the doppelgangers is much different than giving two separate contracts to two individuals. |
