Canucks have $7.5 million in cap space. $4 million for Iginla leaves them with $3.5 million to sign Tanev and maybe some other plug for league minimum.
- hankthetank

so you're gonna go with what, 18 players on the roster? lol

7 players needed to get to 23, 7.5 mil. 3.5 mil for 6 players isn't exactly going to fill your roster. You can't even play either of the two rookies you just drafted in the 1st round because their entry level deals are going to be for about 1.5-2 if not more

Damn it, I forgot they don't even have a full roster yet. Fine, sign Iginla to $500,000k a year. Like I said, if he's any kind of father he'll take the deal for his kids! FOR THE KIDS!!!!

An option, for sure.

Don't see it happening this year, though.

He'll be in the lineup, or on the IR.

Or maybe traded, if MG can find a taker for a late pick.

- Fosco

I agree I think MG will save most of his salary on LTIR . I think Booth will only play about 20 games this year. If he is scoring the Canucks will continue and if not he will have a body injury to free up salary. and be bougt out next year with a two year hit.

We can if he decides he wants a shot at winning here rather than taking big money elsewhere. He could sign a 1 year deal for $2M. Or, if he was going to sign here the Canucks could ship out Booth...

I year two mil , yes, 3 or 4 mil nah

last time he scored 30 goals was 6 years ago. Last time he scored more than 20 was 4 years ago. He's been injured for serious amounts of time in 4 of the last 6 seasons. He's a massive risk, with upside. That massive risk is why no one is going to commit that chunk of cap space to him, to have him go down with injury and be left with a hole in the lineup. Ballard would be a better player to pick up and he was bought out. Talk about overvaluing players, after Ballard and Luongo, hasn't anything clicked?

- Isles_since_6

If you're a team with cap space then taking the risk on Booth instead of leaving the cap space empty is worthwhile. If he plays it's a great move. If he's injured then insurance covers it and you aren't worse off. As a UFA this year he'd probably get between $3.5M - $4.25M so his cap hit is pretty close to what he's worth. There is too much need across the league for scoring for not a single team to take Booth for zero assets.

I think a lot hinges on whether Torts and Co. can fix the cluster(frank) D pairings AV and Bowness played musical chairs with last season.

But with Kesler and Booth healthy, AV finally gone, no goalie controversy (assuming Luongo reports happy with his buckets of money) the team should actually be better than they were last year...
- KB3Point0

uhh, let me know when Booth is healthy and Luongo reports and says he's happy.

Its funny how adding one player makes the team look stronger. Even if he is getting old. A couple years at the right price can't be a bad thing.
- thundachunk

He is one season removed from 30 goals and last year was shortened. Doubt he hits 30 again but 20 is probably realistic.

We need to sign Iginla's type of guy every once in a while otherwise people will think MG is racist. Bad enough that they haven't qualified Prab Rai.

The only way Booth goes on LTIR this season is if he gets injured again and is legitimately hurt. They won't put him on there just to free up cap space.

there also seems to be a massive hunt on for defensemen around the league yet Ballard and Gilbert were both bought out. These guys were on unconditional waivers for 100 bucks. If neither of these two guys were worth it at less dollars than Booth, and defensemen are in demand, why didn't they get picked up?

Overvaluing players again.

Well, if we trade Edler it would depend who to and for what. Very possible a D-man comes back in the trade. Especially if it's with Philly.

What's up Couv fans? I had an Edmonton fan suggest a trade of Taylor Hall for Matt Read, Braydon Coburn, and Andrej Mezaros. I was wondering, if this package could land Taylor Hall in the eyes of a Oils fan, could this package land Alex Edler from you guys?

k that made me laugh, +1 to you for the kids comment

After watching him in the playoffs with Pittsburgh I think he's done. He just looks slow and ineffective. I don't think he'd be an upgrade.

Booth's been hunting for a few weeks. He'll be fine in 1 - 2 months if he isn't already.

Luongo will either report happy or they'll void his contract. Hey Lu, does $40M make you happy or not?

Done.

- KB3Point0

Yes. Except you've got the sides mixed up.

I even wouldn't mind;

Hamhuis Bieksa
Edler Garrison

(since Garrison switched to the right side so well, and that also keeps the four highest paid D in the top4)

Leaves a bit of an issue on the bottom pair, though, with two (maybe three with Blum) RHD...

But it's still infinitely better than Edler and Bieksa paired together

contract doesn't get voided if he holds out and demands a trade, they can just suspend him and dodge the cap hit until he changes his mind. In the meantime you'd have to find another starter and then figure out what to do with them if Luongo decided to report and play. Miserable situation.

Looking at a lot of rednecks, hunting doesn't require being in shape

We can assume that Edler was traded for a 4th rd pick and a bottom6 grinder
