I hope Holmgren isn't using Couturier as a "throw in" in order for someone to take Meszaros. That wouldn't be good.

Totally agree.

it may be 1 year, homer said he wanted another goalie with only like one year, so maybe with mason/emery on 1 year deals will turn into some great goalie comp

I suggested a few days ago that they might need to add a prospect to get someone to take Mesz. Obviously Couts wouldn't be a throw in, but the return will likely be far less than what you guys are thinking if Mesz is in the deal.

I have to go make money now instead of wasting time.

Be back later after Holmgren signs Emery and trades away Couturier.

I'm not a Montreal fan but the Habs I believe were the 2nd best team in the EC last year. I think Briere is far from an idiot. He knew he would get bought out, he gets some money the next few years from the buyout and put himself in a position to choose a team that gave him a nice financial commitment, a chance to win the playoffs, and works for himself and his family.

We'll see what happens. I think your point about Read in your previous post is a good one. If they feel they can't sign him, would make sense to trade him now.

I didn't say salaries aren't escalating on the whole. We were talking salaries of top players like Giroux and Vinny back in the day. The lockout happend because GM's like Holmgren were giving elite money to mediocre players like Bryz and because small market teams can't compete with larger markets. The salary for the average NHL player has escalated for sure. But not much for the top tier which is what we were debating.

Then I'll simply point to the last year's two big Free Agent signings. Pairese and Suter. Take the first 7 years of their deals. Because 7 years in the max you can get in Free Agency now.

Both players would have cap hits of 10.1M.

The salary for top players has escalated greatly. Weber made 14M last year. He'll make 14M again this year.

thats exactly my first thought, he is at the point were he needs more minutes imo, i just dont see schenn on the wing and even if we didnt see hall being signed, putting coots on the 4th lie would never make sense, also i beleive coots is from phoenix

i dunno, but i just started following him and others had posted his stuff here. been fairly on target w/o outrageous nonsense so far.

Well, whatever the Coots rumor is, someone will have to go with him if they expect to get a top tier d-man back. Otherwise salary will still have to go.

We are not getting anything good for him straight up that is NOT going to hamstring this team cap wise.

The only way they're gonna find a taker for Meszaros is to package him, but to hear that they're 'shopping' the kid with him is disheartening. I hope the term is inaccurate.

yeah im about sick of 36 and oil change, they need to add more shows or just live coverage all day
