The only way they're gonna find a taker for Meszaros is to package him, but to hear that they're 'shopping' the kid with him is disheartening. I hope the term is inaccurate.

I hope Holmgren isn't using Couturier as a "throw in" in order for someone to take Meszaros. That wouldn't be good.

I don't think such incompetence is feasible, but if Couturier were a 'throw in', let alone to make a salary dump work, Holmgren should be fired immediately.

Me too. Being Meszaros is on the last year of his deal at a 4m cap hit, you would figure someone would be willing to offer a 5th round pick for him. That would be fine with me.

And you know if Meszaros is dumped, he plays all 82 next year. Take it to the bank.

We'll see what happens. I think your point about Read in your previous post is a good one. If they feel they can't sign him, would make sense to trade him now.

Of the younger forwards, Read has been the most bankable and might have lead the team in goals last year if he didn't get hurt. How will they replace those goals? Clearly last year counting on a lot of the "ifs" to happen...if Hartnell repeats his career year, if Simmonds and Talbot get close to their previous years, if Schenn/Couts get to next level...didn't work out.

thats exactly my first thought, he is at the point were he needs more minutes imo, i just dont see schenn on the wing and even if we didnt see hall being signed, putting coots on the 4th lie would never make sense, also i beleive coots is from phoenix

I still think Schenn plays on Vinnys wing.

If you're going to shop a player like couturier, you better swing for the fences. I really don't want him moved though.

Holmgren blows it again. Giroux is certainly a nice player but who thinks that he would have been handed a sheet of 7yr/ 8.5m per year in his RFA year. I would have stuck it out and rolled the dice if I was the Flyers. While there would be a SLIGHT chance that a team would come back with that number or higher, it would mean that G had an all-star MVP type season to earn it. By doling out the money in advance you also set yourself up badly. WHAT IF? B. Schenn has a breakout year this year and puts up number close to G's, does that make Schenn a 8m/ year player too?

Not sure how you call locking up your best player and one of the league's top 5 or 10 players blowing it. Maybe the AAV is $500k too high right now but, as pointed out, that number will appear smaller and smaller through the years. He is a complete player working toward a point per game reg. season avg. and well over a point per game in the playoffs. If you can lock him up through his prime years you do it. I would agree if he signed for 8 years as a 30-32 year-old but at 25 years old, this deal is a slam dunk!
