with all due respect, how does the hall signing effect schenn, coots or Talbot? he signed for peanuts and is a fouth line center. the only person this effects is scott laughton, which I hope they don't trade. I hope its just to keep him maturing and used as a call up if needed. - billybudd27
Hall's cap hit is small enough that he can be waived and have his cap comes off completely. Would he clear waivers? Who knows... Considering he was on and off them 3 times last season and got claimed each and every time. |

Bill Meltzer: Flyers Free Agency Friday: Fireworks or Dud? - bmeltzer
I posted last night I was hoping Giroux's extension would be 7.25M per. Glad to see you were hoping for 7.5M. We get all of Giroux's peak years but the second half of that extension will cover his declining years as well. Rarely do 8 year deals work out for any team in sports. We gave him financial security a year early and for that I was hoping there would be some sort of discount as there is always a chance Giroux gets injured next year or has another subpar season. IMO, none of Perry, Getzlaf or Giroux will live up to their extensions for the entirety of their contracts. |

Wow, some doom and gloom this morning. I'm happy G is locked up for 8 years. I won't complain until after he declines...
Sure is it higher than I hoped? Yep, I was hoping for a small discount. But am I shocked? Nope. He is consistently one of the best center / playmakers in the game. He was going to get paid like it.
And I will say this. Philly does take care of it's players.
So good for him. I'll look forward to watching him play for years to come. |

Yep. Right now it's just options. Any one move doesn't mean another deal is imminent.
Hey, Darroll Powe and Arron Asham are on waivers. - Jsaquella
I hope Powe gets picked up. It won't be by us, but I always liked him. |

Emery coming your way? Do you think Mason and Emery is the answer? - Pierceme69
"THE" answer? Who knows...
An answer? Sure. Can we get through a year with that tandem I think so. If we do sign Emery I hope it's not long term. Although if he does get a couple of yers it wouldn't shock me, cuz if Mason really bombs he's off the books next year. |

If Emery is indeed the choice, what happens if Mason reverts back to Columbus form, and Emery's hip doesn't allow him to handle being a full time starter. |

There most certainly is a discount in the deal. 3-4 years from now when Giroux is still a top player, 8M will be a discount. What do you think a player like Giroux could command on the open market as a UFA? He's 25, and the Flyers have him locked in. Is Giroux's play all of a sudden going to fall off a cliff? His so called subpar Season was a point a game average. Any player can get hurt.

Hall will likely center the 4th line, which means Laughton could stick as the 3rd center, which could allow them to move Couturier. Also, if they view Talbot as the 4th center, Hall staying could allow them to move Talbot's contract out for cap relief. - Jsaquella
Again...signing a veteran 4th line center to a 1-year deal for $600K should not having any impact on moving your young 1st round picks. |

It might not, but it does give them options. It might just mean another year in Oshawa for Laughton. It might mean they let Gags walk. It might mean they feel they have enough depth to make a big move on defense. |

We scramble. I'd expect a trade at that point.
But this is a pretty dire scenario. It's much more likely one or the other struggles - both would be impressively bad luck, even for us.
Nothing is 100% certain. But I'd be ok with starting the season with this tandem. |

I think the longer-term higher-dollar Lecavalier deal meant that Gags was moving on. If he goes back to Oshawa, I won't be happy, but it's a better idea that trading a young player and having to fill his spot when Hall moves on/gets waived. |

Exactly. Way deep down the middle all over again. I know some of these guys are comfortable at either center or wing, but most are natural centers. Way too many on this roster. |

I like Emery. I think he can play well. Just concerned if he has to carry the bulk of the games that he might not hold up.

Being realistic is not doom and gloom. Unfortunately, fans only think of and hope for the best case scenario and that's the problem. Things happen in sports or life in general. Just see what the Flyers go through each season. Teams are giving out these extensions based on best case scenarios of their young superstars. You kind of get cornered into regret and disappointment doing that. I'm sure Lecavalier's huge long term contract brought Tampa fans joy too when he signed. They just bought him out at age 33 while he's still productive. I understand it's because of the new CBA etc but thats the reality of sports. Giroux will be 34 at the end of his contract so expect the last few years of his extension to be an overpayment for a declining player. Things happen and most of the time for the worse whether it's injuries, a new CBA, etc, etc, etc. |

So, Elias on an over-35 contract at $5.5M carrying him till he's 40.
Lecavalier on anunder-35 contract at $4.5M carrying him till he's 38.
And somehow the Lecavalier contract is a joke, but Uncle Lou is a genius. |

Boston had (I think) 8 natural centers on their team this past year. Never a bad thing to have 2 guys on the ice who can take a draw. |

I hope we don't move Talbot. I love his leadership. If they move Couturier it better be for a stud defenseman which would probably mean he would be packaged with a defenseman to get the deal done. |

Great move to re-sign Hall. Addresses the need of another faceoff guy. Giroux was tge first in the league to 1000 faceoffs last year. Gotta cut tgat down. If the move was made at the expense of Gagne so be it. Plenty of guys on this team can play 3rd line wing and 2nd PP wing. Not many are good at faceoffs...
As stated by a few already people need to be prepared to move on from Gagne. |

Well then hopefully he wins 3 Cups before he becomes nothing but a 4th-line fringe player at age 32. |

When you have had the success Lamoriello has had, it affords you benefit of the doubt. Elias is still a very good player. Still close to a point per game guy. |

Agreed. Need guys like Talbot to win. Great PK, great leadership. Not a dime a dozen player. Kinda like a younger Lappy with better skating and less fighting. |
