It's funny. I want to give Lou Lamoriello credit for walking away from that deal, but you can't give him a pass because he signed a worse player in Ryane Clowe to a five-year deal.

Ryane Clowe's rate of decline is like that of all power forwards: Swift. It will happen to Scott Hartnell one day, and I acknowledge that freely. It will look just as bad.

The difference is that the Flyers signed Scott Hartnell after a 37-goal, All-Star season. The Devils signed Clowe -- albeit in a shortened season -- after a three-goal season.

That's just unbelievable to me. The decline was obvious. I don't even know how you tell yourself, if you're the Devils, that the rate of decline hasn't accelerated on Ryane Clowe.

So if Clarkson get's close to 6M a year, how does that make Giroux's 8.25 deal look? Had that discussion this morning.

Well, I call Clarkson's deal crazy in light of Giroux's, which I think is reasonable. But if one goes under the premise that Clarkson's deal is fair, then Giroux got screwed royally.

Also, Emery for 1.65M could be a steal. If he plays to the same level as he did this past Season in Chicago. But there will be a different team in front of him, obviously.

I'd be all for trading Braydon Coburn for a good chance at that, and you just know Calgary would overpay and give you that, too.
