Given some of the trade rumors, and the size of contracts handed out, I'm very pleased with what the Flyers did today.

The solidified the goaltending position for a very low cost, and added a capable AHL starter/emergency guy, didn't dump a poopload of cash into damaged goods(Horton), overpay for an underachiever(Clowe) or go nuts for a solid guy that is regarded more highly than his level of play(Clarkson).

I do wonder if there is another move out there, but all in all a solid day.

First off, regardless of anything the Sens do short of winning the cup in the next decade, this city will still be in mourning over Alfie leaving. I swear, this is the closest Ottawa will come to rioting about hockey. Doesn't matter who's the bad guy, Murray, Melnyk, Alfie. This city is crushed.

Bobby Ryan helps, the team needs something to get excited about after this morning's news. Maybe if Ryan pots 35-40 playing with Spezza, the wounds begin to heal.

Emery for 1.65mil is a steal, look at what Nabokov cost, how much Halak or Hiller via trade AND salary would cost. Thomas likely wants way more than 1.65. Great signing.

A lot of these other contracts being signed today, makes Vinny look even better.

We do have a lot of contracts and limited cap space, so its possible a deal or two is still to be made. With Ryan off the market until he signs here as a UFA in 2 years, I only want to see a minor cap move or two. Mesz, perhaps Coburn if the return is right. There are only a few plausible guys I'd move Schenn or Couts for. Kane, Pietrangelo, Edler, Yandle.
