He's running his team like a video game- sign everyone to big contracts.
I'm too lazy to actually google, but he has- what?- 40 mil spread through 4 players? And he's a great GM? Cmon.... - Giroux_Is_God
$32,400,000 in 5 players - Crosby, Malkin, Fleury, Martin, and Neal, or about 50% of this year's cap dollars. Yeah, Shero is a magic man. The proof is the cup they won this past season after trading for Morrow, Iginla and Murray. |

yeah, and even the trapping Devils gave in & signed Kovalchuk, I don't know who's more confusing in their team decisions this summer Nashville or Boston - puckhead17
I still cant believe Nashville didn't sell Jones to the highest bidder at the draft. And as I mentioned on draft day, I'm sure Weber wasn't too happy about it either. How many times does he have to say he wants significant talent added to the forward lines? |

He can say it as often as he wants, he's stuck there, unless he holds out in a demand to get traded. |

Once more this summer at least, Grabovski I think is still available.
at least it's offense
Remember when Suter left for that big $$$, Poile had said, I believe that he offered the same $$$, so, why not offer it to a #1 center, or a power forward? or something up front? |

I'm so glad they matched. I'd love to have Weber, but that contract is terrible under the new CBA |

Weber got paid, his agent did his job. Saw the possible landscape change coming in a new CBA and treated his client as a UFA even though he was restricted. Weber may complain at the rink, but reviewing his bank account on-line should help him cope. |

It will be better than Weber's. Can't be longer than 8 years, and be anywhere near as front loaded. No cap recapture possibility with Pietrangelo, either. |

I'm still confused as to why they didn't go after Carter either time he was on the block. Or at the very least trade down with Carolina, take Lindholm as your future franchise Center and get a little something extra out of Carolina.
There's also the letting Blum walk for nothing situation....
Poile. I'm not a fan. |

Agreed. As fans we didn't see that aspect coming. I'm sure Homer and Poile knew that could be an issue going in. |

When you have a chance to acquire the best player in the league (at least at his position), you agree to overpay. |

I forgot about the Blum walking thing, I used to root a little for the way Poile ran things, very hard job being competitive with the financial restraints, but now it seems he has no interest in offense at all, baffling!! |

I'm sure the GMs figured the loophole of front loading contracts would be closed, but I find it unlikely GMs thought the league would in turn punish teams for contracts they deemed as acceptable. It really is kind of a bush league move. |

Agreed. Under the last CBA it was workable. But basically he's on an over 35 deal. Say he destroys his knee in a year or two. If he retires, they have 12 years of a $1.67mm cap penalty to deal with. |

I honestly have no idea why they didn't move down a spot for Lindholm. Then you have something to build around on offense for once. |

Once he clears you trade him for a conditional pick.
a 2nd if 60 games, 1000+ minutes
a 3rd if 45 games, 800 minutes
...
5th or 6th if he plays little |

doubt they expected punishment for legal contracts.
It's like getting a ticket on a highway for doing 65 before they drop the limit to 45 |

To me, it's a risk worth taking. If you could have had Crosby for 14 years at $8M, you take it, you don't worry about all the possible negatives. |
