anyone expecting the Isles to jump into what is a very weak UFA market and throw giant long term contracts around was an idiot for holding out hope of that. And for thinking these contracts being signed are a good idea.
I said before if we could get a reasonable goalie then I'd be perfectly fine starting camp with the rookies pushing for spots and would still consider it an upgrade.
Also, anyone throwing in the towel on day 1 and 3.5 hours into free agency is hilarious foolish and short sighted. - Isles_since_6
Not "throwing in the towel", however Garth has shown an inability or unwillingness to make deals of significance to improve this team. (Clutterbuck excluded)
Not a lot of confidence in our "fearless leader". |

In today's NHL it is. I'm fine with not getting Stalberg. I was only upset with the Regin signing right after FA opened. Other than that I have not killed Snow. - ses111
They've had two days to talk to these guys. What difference does it make when he actually signed? |

Yeah, I think Nilsson is the ticket there. Poulin is possible, but he needs to forget what Sudsie taught him... - dcb1

You make a great point when you exclude the deals that disprove it!

we've been rebuilding from nothing in the farm and nothing on the roster. We have young players about to make an impact this year as well as more coming. We are not a cup contender likely for another year or two. Why make a rash move now? You have to know that any team the Isles talk to trying to get a top six winger is going to want Nelson or Strome. Why would we move them now as they're just about ready? They may turn out to be better than what is currently available.
People really need to be patience and should stop expecting a big splash on ufa day. It's not like this is a shock to anyone, we were told Garth wasn't looking for a defenseman and was looking at a forward or two and a goalie.

I consider Ottawa a team we'll probably be battling with for one of those wildcard spots under the new playoff format. Ryan makes them better. |

With Clutterbuck? Maybe? You would consider it a successful offseason for Snow? You can save the "it's not over" stuff for someone else. |

Boston's weaker, Rangers about the same (weak), Pittsburgh is a bit weaker. Philly is marginally better if Emery can play better than Bryz, Columbus won't be better until december or January, New Jersey is hilarious and should be bad again. Toronto is about the same, Montreal marginally better if they can sustain that massive improvement of last season but I think they drop back. Ottawa is about the same bringing in Ryan and losing Alfie.
People keep talking about teams getting better but overall I think it's not the case.

Im happy he's f'in traded, all I have heard is his name for what seems like the last 3 seasons... now he is traded and his name will be mentioned 95% less in trade scenarios... we can move on to another player.

There are many reasons why and you're a smart guy so I'm not going to bore you with the reasons bcs quite frankly each and every person on here is smart enough on here to know why you add to the roster even if you have to overpay a bit. |

Glad to get Nabby back. He's a class act and maybe he was waiting to see if the Isles would sign Emery and he would go for a backup. Think for 3.25M he knows he's the starter which takes alot of mental preparation and pressure which is why I admire Lundqvist.
Regin means more depth at BRI which allows for call up of Strome or Nelson.
Bouchard could be a serious difference if we find ourselves in alot of shootouts.
Weiss signs for DET under same terms as Fillipula to TAM which tells me they consider Weiss an upgrade.
Horton to Columbus seems steep but JD has a solid track record which tells me he would have nixed the signing if he thought it otherwise.
Scuderi to PITT because he has alot of bonds with that team doesn't surprise.
Clowe to NJD, 25M for 5 yrs. To Lou 30 yr old player is a rookie. Sather couldn't fit him under cap and In your face when you gave up picks in a deep draft. Lou probably wanted Clowe at deadline cause guy plays Devil hockey. |

You telling me you are the Isles GM and FA just opened you would be comfortable with this signing? Especially when you know fans are expecting more? I know I'm making a big deal about this. It's bad PR. Forget it. |
