With all due respect to both you guys.
I'm not convinced. - SCLI
You can include me in that and most people in this world while you're at it. Probably include Garth Snow in that too. |

There are many reasons why and you're a smart guy so I'm not going to bore you with the reasons bcs quite frankly each and every person on here is smart enough on here to know why you add to the roster even if you have to overpay a bit. - Cptmjl

Glad to get Nabby back. He's a class act and maybe he was waiting to see if the Isles would sign Emery and he would go for a backup. Think for 3.25M he knows he's the starter which takes alot of mental preparation and pressure which is why I admire Lundqvist.
Regin means more depth at BRI which allows for call up of Strome or Nelson.
Bouchard could be a serious difference if we find ourselves in alot of shootouts.
Weiss signs for DET under same terms as Fillipula to TAM which tells me they consider Weiss an upgrade.
Horton to Columbus seems steep but JD has a solid track record which tells me he would have nixed the signing if he thought it otherwise.
Scuderi to PITT because he has alot of bonds with that team doesn't surprise.
Clowe to NJD, 25M for 5 yrs. To Lou 30 yr old player is a rookie. Sather couldn't fit him under cap and In your face when you gave up picks in a deep draft. Lou probably wanted Clowe at deadline cause guy plays Devil hockey. - Fan101
Awesome. Makes me all the happier. Glad we got a class act on our team. |

overpay a bit maybe, these contracts today? These are the kinds of deals we just saw bought out. They're terrible and at some point these teams are going to lose a player because they signed one of these guys to a bad deal. This is a terribly bad ufa period, with awfully funny contracts being signed. There is no need to get involved when you're paying double the value and 3 times the term that some of these guys should be getting.
No thanks. Will continue to develop players or look for a reasonable trade later in the summer instead. My 2 cents.

You telling me you are the Isles GM and FA just opened you would be comfortable with this signing? Especially when you know fans are expecting more? I know I'm making a big deal about this. It's bad PR. Forget it. - ses111
if I'm the GM I'm not signing a borderline upgrade to a stupid contract because a bunch of fans on a message board were about to have a heart attack if I didn't.

the return that Ottawa got is like us trading Strome, Cizikas and a one...silfverurg will be a 25-30 goal scorer..this is a good deal for both teams |

We needed a defenseman, we needed a goaltender. Everything else was not important. Those are two needs going into camp that weren't filled. No matter how you slice it that's the reality of it. |

are you giving up Strome plus in that deal for Ryan? Because if you aren't you're not getting him and if you are, you may be severely disappointed in 2 years.

bouchard is a nice signing and is an upgrade over boyes...regin gives them depth if nelson or strome aren't ready...good size, smart defensively...people can complain all they want, but the isles are a better team today..some of these contracts are laughable...Horton...Clarkson..fippula |

it was stated by staple prior to today (last week I think) that the Isles wouldn't be looking for a defenseman as a ufa. Goaltender we got (not wild about him, but Poulin or Nilsson will get a better opportunity)
on defense we'll see at camp if Donovan, Dehaan or someone else can make the team. Might even be two rooks on defense if they really impress, who knows? I'd rather see what we have then overpay for a ufa that is 10 years older and on the decline.

is the team better today than they were last season? - LetsGoIsles
The Isles are a little better at forward. Adding ClutterBuck and getting rid of some dead weight. You know the names. so by process of elimination we improve.
"D" ???? No way to tell if we're better, Worse or the same. We did nothing.
Goalie? by staying Pat. We are worse off. Nabby a yr older following a bad PO performance. Say what you will. I dont think he wanted to return. Had Emery not gone to Philly. I believe Nabby would have been a Flyer. Aside from them. I doubt anyone wanted him. Thats why he's still an Islander.
But I think we didnt do the things that were needed to make the PO's again.
And to prove that. We'll have to wait and see.
