I'm not trying to fight about FA. What I wanted as a fan was solid movements to sure up the team. Things like not getting Schneider or Ryan. Things that will drastically improve a team not only on the ice but also with the league, their reputation, their own fans who are always skeptical because they play with the least amount of money year in and year out.
I'm not jumping off a bridge here. There is an entire summer. It just looks from the naked eye, the Isles lose pieces and they filled them with more crap pieces.
I have no idea what their plan is. No idea what direction they are looking to, I just feel after watching these last few weeks, a lot has gone by that I felt the Islanders should have been in on. I paid good money for season tix and was finally happy with the result last season. But, I said to my buddy, I want to wait this year before renewing because I want to see if they jump in and go after trades, FA, whatever to make that splash to move forward or do they just ride the wave they were on and coast into next season. They have a crap ton of pieces, I just hope they use them before someone realizes 1/2 of these pieces are worthless. - brodydog29
after six years of drafting prospects and signing relatively inexpensive fa's, and picking up some bargins on waivers, you don't know what their plan is? LOL.

quoted your post:
who else was available as a UFA when noon est hit? Poulin/Nilsson need to play more than 10 games to get an idea of what we have.
Point out where I'm incorrect and I'll own it. And calm the hell down, it's a discussion, not a personal attack. - Isles_since_6
Quoted what? Your not even on topic.
What the hell has that got to do with me not wanting to playing prospects??????????

Is that their ultimate plan? To pile draft picks and waivers for the entire tenure of Snow and Wang???
Because if it is, then we are wasting our time and money. |

you're like talking to a brick. They're developing from within, making fairly safe trades to shore up positions of weakness and picking up players on safe contracts. We're not cup contenders yet, and one or two stupidly overpriced ufas aren't going to make us one.

Its only 310 on July 5th and I'm already disappointed. I knew/know they wouldn't spend the necessary money on free agents but I'd hoped Snow would part with some assets in a trade for our 3 glaring weaknesses. What's it going to take? Brought back nabby for a year and signed some scrub. Great. What do u do for an encore Garth?
Turn off the light. - Mancalledsting
Well, he's been busy all day signing Hammer. It was a tough process, Hammer demanding unlimited dental, free from Obamacare... Garth had to overpay on that one. Charles not happy. |

How are Nilsson and Poulin going to play if you don't give them a chance? Nabby is a stop gap to play 50 games and the kids will play the rest. If there's an issue, I'm sure at that point he'll look to fix it, much like when he grabbed Montoya the one year everyone fell in love with the guy.

Most (and I say most because I haven't read EVERY story out there) of the press disagree with you 100%.
Not on the overpayment part but its been said repeatedly the Isles are only a few key pieces away from being serious contenders.
But we won't be contenders with a GM & Coach who are more like pretenders at what they do.
Filppula, Bobby Ryan, Seguin, all TRADED today. Alfie to Detroit. Horton to CLB
I'd say any two of those five would have SERIOUSLY improved this team.
Guess my vacation from giving Garth his due diligence is over.
He sucks. |

*sigh*.
filppula was a 5 year 25 mil signing as a ufa. Segiun brought back 3 young prospects plus Erickson, Bobby Ryan would have cost us Strome plus. Alfie wasn't going to sign here as a UFA and CBJ bought 7 years of Horton with a big risk of concussions at a huge dollar amount.
Do you think we had the pieces to give up in the Seguin trade or Ryan trade? maybe, would it make us better? I don't know.
I certainly am not going to bury Snow because Horton got massive money elsewhere and Alfie wanted to go to Detroit. Boston tried to sign him and failed, what chance did we have?
It's not NHL 13, you can't just force these guys to sign and signing bad contracts leads to losing good players off your roster 2-3 years later when you don't have the money to resign them. Our owner is cheap and we have an internal budget that's right around the floor. Keep blaming Snow.

Yea right...if you believe that I have a bridge to sell you...wouldn't be suprised if the Islanders are a top 5 entry draft team again...they should have gotten Scuderi and went for Ryan...and that's it...Who are the tops picks in next year's draft...I've had it with Snow... |

Considering in a couple of years they will be playing in the shadow of the Brooklyn Bridge but I'm sure he's planning to win at least one before they leave NVMC. |

Yes, we have the assets, just not the person who can get the deal done.
This is how team's do business in this league.
Garth is not smarter than everyone. And it shows.
Looking forward to tomorrow's big news of Josh Bailey resigning.

Scuderi and Ryan could have brought this team to the next level. JT needs a better supporting cast, Ryan would have been perfect....even Seguin would have made sense. We need another scoring punch on the top six.....and Snow should still want another threat on defense...Im still hopeful he has a trade in the works. |

anaheim looks like they wanted a young roster player, a solid prospect and a 1st. Ryan under contract for 2 more years. So we'd likely have to give up Okposo, Strome and a 1st. Does that make us better? I don't like that deal to be honest.
Teams sometimes don't want players you're offering, players sometimes want to play in a certain city, sometimes want a hell of a lot more money than you'd want to give.
There are a ton of teams out there today who have not cashed in on a ufa or a big trade. Not everyone gets one. Would I like to see something? Not sure TBH. I think I'd rather see Donovan, Strome and Nelson get a shot next year and see where we're at.
Not saying I wouldn't like Ryan, I'm saying I'm not sure we're at the point where one guy like that puts us into the playoffs or a cup contender, and I'm sick of watching our prospects develop somewhere else. |

The contracts we're seeing handed out today are borderline assinine. Clowes contract is a joke. As for the trade, unless you were willing to part with Strome, Nelson and a 1st, there was no need to pull the trigger.
This team will be better simply by adding more of our prospectsto the mix. Bouchard and Clutterbuck are solid additions. More importently, we're doing this without over committing financially.
