Akeson is not a player you'd want playing on the 3rd or 4th line. He needs to be on a top scoring line, or he doesn't fit. - MJL
Mjl time to put your GM hat on. What's your pietrangelo deal look like? |

I just don't see them getting the value they want in the Couterier, Read, Coburn, and 1st deal. I originally proposed that, but I think you see it more along the lines of Schenn, Simmonds, Coburn, and 1st. I'm just not sure about that deal. - Flyers1218
Yea I think that is pretty close to it, not sure how they would feel taking on all that salary tho.

It doesn't matter what the price is. All those guys can be replaced through drafting. In 6 years when Pietrangelo is our 2nd most important player and essentially a 2nd captain behind only Giroux, we won't even consider the players we gave up, cause we'll have found replacements in one way or the other. This is like the Giroux contract. We just have to bite our tongue, pay the price, and move on from it. |

Not sure, but I'd give up a lot. It would include one of Couturier or B Schenn. Another roster player. And a combination of 1st round picks and prospects.
But personally, I think this is all a ruse. I think St. Louis is putting out this vibe to push Pietrangelo to sign a lower deal.

They say they want 2 top 6 players plus. Why not Hartsey as a piece. He does have an NTC though. But we can add a read or coots and it is a solid offer with a pick. |

I can definitely see that as well...you have to ask if he is so great why would the blues consider getting rid of him.....something has to go wrong between the two sides for this to be legitimate |

This could backfire on them if that's the intent. Nickeling and diming him gives other teams time to come up with a crazy O.S. and STL will wind up having to match and sign him for a bigger contract than even Pietro was looking for. |

Either they legitimately don't want to pay him over $7 mil on his second contract, or as MJL said, this is just posturing to essentially try to threaten him into lowering his price. |

Weaken one area to strengthen another. The return could be huge, and their defense would still be pretty good without him.
But the more I think about it the more I think he is being Bobbed. Expect the singing tomorrow |

Possibly, but I don't think St. Louis is afraid of that.

IF they are not afraiding of spending big money on Pietro, dragging this out and putting rumors out there that they are open to offers for him just to save a few dollars is bad player relations considering it's their franchise dman. I don't think it's a ploy. They really don't want to spend what he's asking for. |

Columbus just did exactly that with their franchise, Vezina winning goalie and it worked just fine. |

When it comes to contract negotiations, it is a business. Pietrangelo needs to learn that sooner or later. His time will come. He's 23 coming off his EL deal. And if his feelings are hurt from it, then he needs to grow up. If the rumors are true, that he's asking for 7M, then yes, the Blues don't want to spend that much. But they don't want to trade him either in my opinion.

Two problems- the rfa has to agree to terms AND they have to have the assets to make the offers. So it is almost impossible to have multiple offer sheets out at one time. |

They'd be foolish to not sign him long term tight now. He's tremendous. |

That and he's not really what they need. They already have Chris Stewart. They could use more scorers. Maybe someone for their PP/PK |

Overall, after thinking about it and seeing the massacre of bad deals handed out yesterday, I think the Flyers have done a really good job so far; as far as next season's lineup is concerned.
Lecavalier will be good for them next year and so will Streit. Emery, on a one year deal, is a very good signing.
No BS, I think the Flyers are doing a decent job, heading into next season. I know they aren't done and likely have to make a trade but so far Holmgren has been smart while being proactive. |
