but you'd move talbot to the 4th line and keep laughton in juniors - Crimsoninja
I think it only makes sense if Read is traded |

They need a defenseman and a goalie. Streit isn't the answer and neither is emery. Not trying to knock these players but I'm tired of this front office (frank)ing around. Emery came cheap because he's an injury risk and yet again another goalie that needs positioning and can't rely on his reflexes, well with this coach he's doomed.
So yea they should've stood pat and maybe just brought in another coach, go from there. Instead they bring in two free agents in lecalvier and emery that probably won't fit on top of that they awarded this captain with a monstrous contract after missing the playoffs when two years ago they traded his predecessor after getting bounced in the second round... It just goes on and onward but never upward. It's frustrating - JoeRussomanno
What was part of the reason why they traded his predecessor? It was to build the team around Giroux, correct? So why not lock him up long term to a good deal. Seems like it's contradictory. You want them to be patient and build with youth. But object to locking up their best young player long term.

There might not even be another shoe. They might not get a deal until the season and not make a move just for the sake of dumping a contract/salary |

Ya I just don't know if that's the kind of player I'd want to give considerable assets for when Pietrangelo is supposedly available. |

I can tell by talking to you I forgot more about this game than you know... I'm glad you accepted that's how it is, but sorry I don't have someone piss on my back and tell me it's raining. I've been supportive of the team over the years but when they keep doing the same poop expecting different results that's just bullpoop and I have every right to call them out on it. - JoeRussomanno
First off, dont even go there with the " I forgot more then you know" cause you havent....second I am not saying that everyting they do is great, actually I beleive I said in my last post to you that it was Flawed....I also know that complaining about isnt gonna change it cause I used to do the same thing year in and year out...Before the cap they would trade every prospect for every over the hill vet because they thought it help them win and I was the loudest screaming for Clarke to be fired and Snider to sell the team...but it didnt happen and I decided to enjoy the game.... I actually lived in Miami for a couple years, trust me you dont how good it is until its gone...cause those people could care less about hockey and I am talking about the people who ran the team.... |

I believe St. Louis is attempting a classic bait and switch. They wii talk Pietrangelo for awhile but in the end they will deal J.Bo. J.Bo gets nearly 7m. So dealing him gives them all kind of cap space to Sign Pietrangelo. |

Another fact to consider is that deal won't look too bad because I think it will be awhile until the cap comes down again. Maybe at the end of this new CBA. |

Thats interesting. They will have gone from a cap floor team to a cap ceiling team in one year. |

I feel like any player who has ever had a good season is getting paid a ton. They are paying these guys like they expect them to have career years next season. |

I am liking the Vinny deal more and more as I see what kind of contracts these maniacs are handing out across the league.
At worst they have made a lateral move goaltending wise, saving 2 million in cap space in the process. At best they got two guys who are probably better than their cap hits.
They upgraded the center position, getting younger and cheaper in the process. And they added a puck moving dman who will be a better fit for Lavi's system.
I am actually encouraged.

According to capgeek, they have around $7mm under the cap to fit Pietrangelo now, of course they can go 10% over, but they'll likely be shedding somebody |

The cap will continue to go up, because the same mechanism that was used to make it go up before was not changed. All they did was make it harder to circumvent the damned thing. |

It doesn't mean you overpay to keep him. Obviously I'm in the minority here but so were people who said the earth was round 500 years ago. |

They can move Halak and get a decent prospect or pick back. They are susceptible to an OS though. They will probably match but have virtually no leverage in any trade because teams will know they need to shed salary. |
