Stud defenseman. I would have no problem signing him for seven years. Take him until he's 30 before his next deal. Get it done. - stveshdy
Take a much bigger package than Ottawa offered up for Ryan.

This is the guy who's been 5/5 on reporting players to teams so far in free agency

NHL - Source states that Blues are expected to start taking offers on Pietrangelo as early as today, likely take 3 pieces to pry him away - JAKEw1234
Rich Smith @ALLsportsINTEL 5m
NHL - When I spoke with a source earlier about cost for Pietrangelo and Flyers chances, he said it would likely take 2 top 6 forwards plus.

We have youth. The Flyers are one of the younger teams in the league. There is nothing wrong with having some veteran seasoning. Simon Gagne is a proven winner who has a Cup, a gold medal and has scored big goals in his career. Gagne can benefit the Flyers. The Flyers wouldn't have a mutual interest in signing Gagne if there was nothing in it for them. The Flyers are trying to build a Cup Winning Team! - dingo8urbaby
You are describing the 2008 Gagne. Present day Gagne is a role player that a Cup winner put in the lineup just so he can have his name on the Cup. He still brings something to the table, don't get me wrong, but the Flyers should be giving some of the young guys an opportunity to play. |

Defenseman are hard to find. Much easier to fill the forward positions. |

I dunno even if it is that way he's still been the most reliable twitter source to read so far this free agency. - JAKEw1234
I will give him that much. Even if he bases his predictions off of other more legit guys, he is only putting up the ones that end up coming true (or close to true in terms of contract details). He hasn't put up a totally bogus prediction yet that I've seen. |

I have no problem with a guy playing on the 3rd line wing who will chip in 10-12 goals and can play all 3 man power situations if it's for under $2M. |

Schenn, Read, Coburn, 2014 1st? If we trade for a big-time FA, one of Mez/Coburn/Grossmann has to go for cap issues. |

OK, let's put this into perspective. Holmgren gave up Lupul (former 1st rd pick), Sbisa (former 1st rd pick), and 2 1st rd picks for a 35 y/o Pronger.
If STL is asking for 2 top 6 F's and 2 1st's for a 23 y/o Pietrangelo, I'm all over that.

NHL - Flyers and Emery deal seems imminent and will likely be a 2yr deal for slightly less than 3mil a year, terms are not finalized, close |

Emery will go perfect (except for the All Star game) in 9th inning save opportunities? - jmatchett383
No the comparison was Emery's almost perfect season this year as a parallel to Lidge's perfect season (sans ASG). Then what happened the following season... |

And we have tons of those, luckily. Coots, Read, Coburn, 2nd rounder. Leaves our top 12/top 6 looking like
Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Levavalier - Simmonds
Gagne - Laughton - Talbot
McGinn - Hall - Rinaldo
Timonen - Pietrangelo
Streit - Schenn
Grossmann - Gustafsson
Losing Coots hurts, but I think Laughton will still be a very good two-way forward, and he can proficiently enough replace what Coots leaves behind, or at least proficiently enough to make it worth it to move him for Piets. |

Ottawa over payed for Ryan, like considerably so. You can't compare the two, as it's two different GMs with different negotiating skills and different desperation levels than Ottawa and Anaheim. Ottawa was desperate for a top line RWer after Alfie left, we haven't yet reached that level of desperation. |

Yeah, that's the one I mentioned in my previous post where he was wrong. But other posters are saying he's been 5 for 5 on predictions in terms of player destination. And even though I'm not on board with buying what this guy is selling, the Flyers were discussing multi-year deals with Emery. But obviously the slightly less than 3 mil a year was way off. |

As much as I like them, I'd rather offer Schenn plus Read over Couturier. I'm all for not moving ANY of them unless it brings in a Pietrangelo type player. Matt Read is the best deal in the NHL, but we know he's only here for 1 year, so if it's a trade to solidify the blue line for years, I'll let him go. Also, love Schenn, but Couturier's potential is Patrice Bergeron, who's probably one my top-10 NHL players. |

You really hold onto Read above Laughton? I'd personally rather keep the the brother together and trade Coots, who is more valuable than Schenn anyways. |

Right and for me it doesn't make sense to keep that guy playing the 3rd line for the foreseeable future. Plus, we wouldn't be able to pay him AND giroux AND Pietrangelo when it gets around to that time. Just give STL their future Selke winner and move on. |

Sure you can. If you have to move a guy like Scoot Hartnell or Niklas Grossmann or whoever, you hold onto Couturier.
Edit: Although, for the reason you just pointed out, I am 100% against the Vinny signing from a team standpoint. |
