Yandle isn't worth anything close to that, IMO. - jstross
Hehe, just making sure. It wasn't apparent the way you worded it. |

i'd want a proven commodity in a couturier trade. brodie has potential, but i'd want more of a sure thing - FlyerMike18
Then you're trading Couturier plus other assets. You probably couldn't get a guy like Yandle for Couturier alone. |

I have heard of TJ Brodie, guess he is a D man. I would figure he is a prospect, a highly regarded one that. I only ask because I am not on the up and up with the Flames players - bigmookalookie
Brodie strikes me as more of a Coloiacovo/Ian White than somebody I'd be willing to trade a franchise cornerstone for.
Calgary has literally nothing that would interest me in a trade... they're probably the worst drafting team in the NHL, PLUS, they have the crazy UFA contracts that the Flyers are often guilty of. |

To be fully truthful, they're trying to win now and be a contender in the future, 3-5 years down the road. If they were really trying to compete 3 years from now, then the Lecavalier and Streit deals would be terrible. But they are trying to win now, as well as down the road. - Jsaquella
Yeah Philly will always try to ice a team that maybe if everything falls right might have a chance to win cup( that's how this team is now) but once they traded ritchie/cartEr for all that youth it was a rebuild. When 75% of your Roster of top talent is 25 and under you aren't winning the cup. I'm excited to see this core grow. And I expect some pieces to be moved over the next few years. Everone needs to remember Also we are stock piling some talent now (stolarz, morin, hagg, ghost,+ drafts in the next few years. I think homer being patient now proves he's building for future. Now if he goes and trades coots for yandle straight up then that would signal trying to go for cup now. Let's hope we don't see moves like that anytime soon |

Bill Meltzer: Meltzer's Musings: Streit Usage - bmeltzer
Going against the rest, I have Streit paired with Schenn. Luke Schenn was solid both with and without Timonen. Coburn is coming off a doen season that with a helping hand of Kimmo Timonen can fix. They were a proven top pair. I think Schenn and Streit could be fine together. |

Exactly. That's a big part of why Mark Streit is a Flyer now. They didn't want to move Couturier or Schenn for a 27 year old defenseman |

which is why i won't get too adamant against the streit deal (even though i do think it's a bad deal). definitely better than a trade like that, imo |

He's definitely the best out of a very bad bunch.
Looking at how Feaster & Co. have run that team into the ground always puts things into perspective for me when I find myself frustrated with Homer. |

Nah. He'll be anchoring the Flyer's 3rd line for the next 5 years, and then the 2nd for five years after that.. |

NHL - Source if Flyers and Flames pull of Couturier trade, it allows the Flyers to dump Meszaros cap, get possible top 5 pick + prospect.
(Not sure if its been posted) |

Except for a few odd things, I am wondering if the offer sheet for Weber last ruined trading for Holmgren.
It was a poison pill to be sure and those poor franchises getting league revenue sharing are paying salaries with Flyers & other teams gift money by dropping their ticket prices to fill the required percentage of seats to get the revenue
Catch 22, NHL welfare
I am saying this as background for the thread here where we are going around looking for a number 1 D since Streit has flaws
Frankly I would offer sheet AP as a poison pill and offer a trade first......and as an alternate here is a question
I dont know how the retained salary thing would work, but perhaps a deal for Jaybo with the Blues retaining salary would be possible ? |

Holmgren is a pretty solid guy with the rest of the GMs. It is an important part of being able to get deals done. The Weber offer was a once in a career attempt by a GM. It would be a grave mistake to act frivolously.
Does it really serve any useful purpose, for example, if Holmgren makes an offer to Pietrangelo just to spite St. Louis or someone else trying to get him. My assumptions are: Holmgren has to first clear the cap space in order to present the offer and than after he has cleared the cap space he needs to be prepared to see St. Louis flip J.Bo to cover Pietrangelo. Why would he want to antagonize a GM?
Brian Murray said that it took him a full year to close the deal on Bobby Ryan, Holmgren does not want to upset all the guys he has to do deals with. |

Wouldn't it be cool if a gm that was fired or retired wrote a book detailing trades that were discussed or how trade went down and things of that nature. |
