Should have traded Couturier and the 11th pick for Bernier. |

I suppose, but Lauridsen (with 1 more year of development) definitely isn't just a throw away guy, he played pretty good last year. And MAB/Alt wouldn't exactly just be playing a filler, either. And eventually it would be Morin and Hagg on the 3rd pair, which definitely isn't just trying to fill roster space. - JAKEw1234
MAB played well for a couple of months after a fairly undistinguished AHL career, and has been concussion-prone ever since. Right now he is more likely a 6/7 at best.
Lauridsen also showed some nice flashes, but is likely nothing more than a 6/7 at best as well.
Not sure about Alt, but really, if the Flyers have to rely on any two of the them for a length of time the likely have big problems.

you should bookmark these threads to bring back, when Vinnie and Streit get to their last 2 years of the deals
would you have traded this yrs first for Schneider?
I would have done it, but I've seen Schneider and haven't seen Morin (except for his world jr you tube vid) so I'm biased |

for 10-14 minutes a night a 6/7 would be fine I think. Gervais is a 7/8 imo and he does half-decent if you only play him for 10 minutes a night. |

I have high hopes for Morin but I probably would have. Schneider would be the certain goaltending fix we need for at least 5 years, possibly twice that. |

Sure I would have done it and there's nothing to say the flyers didn't offer it but didn't van get a pick two spots higher for Schneider? Gotta sell to the highest bidder. Then again we don't know if homer had a chance to even bid unless there's something out there that flew under my radar.
Edit: I don't keep a running score of what everyone says... If People wanna hold grudges over differences in opinion than that's just being juvenile |

I think Homer said he was not in on Schneider

no I think it is all part of the fun, if everyone had the same opinion and just echoed Bill the place would be boring
I didn't want them to go after Lacavalier and said it the morning before they got him.
But I think for at least 2 years he is going to be pretty good for them, and who knows, it could be longer, or he could get hurt this year.
I'm really OK with Claude Giroux's deal.
I think he is even more a fiery competitor then Richards is, and I love Richards.
Hopefully it works out, 8 years is really long.
Even if it doesn't I am psyched to know he will be a Flyer through his prime. |

Right now, Lauridsen and MAB are 6/7 guys, at best. Lauridsen looked good for a late-season call-up, but could use at least (conservatively) another half-season in the AHL. MAB is a niche guy who has a fairly hard shot and plays physical. Both, to me, are fringe players right now.
As for the other 3, Alt is an unknown although I'm high on him. Morin, as a 1st round pick, had better not be a 3rd pair guy, I expect him to be a top-3. Hagg could go either way. he could be a 1st line player or a 5/6/7 guy.
Again, I'm not saying the Flyers don't have potential cheap bottom pair options. But as they stand right now, I'd be horrified to bank of a pair of Lauridsen and MAB playing 10-14 minutes a night in a playoff series against any of the top teams in the league. They may get to that point, but they're not there now. |

Also remember with the G deal, is that as the cap increases the average salary will increase. an $8 mil contract today won't be equivalent to an $8 mil contract in 7 years, I think it'll be more equivalent to today's $6 or $6.5 mil contracts. |

For all I know they could win the cup this year. Yea vinny will hive at least one good year but is his contract going to force another move down the line, aside from the deal being too long. I mean there's a serious logjam at center and he's just not defensive enough for my liking in the 3-4 spots. Who knows maybe he'll move to wing and that won't backfire.

He looked good, was handed the reigns on a very good team, and lost them. Both he an Bernier have looked good in fairly limited action. Neither has carried the load for a full season. As the goalies of the forseeable future for NJ and Toronto, I wish them both healthy, lucrative lives while they suffer unmentionable hardships on the ice that leave their teams leaking goals like sieves. |

If 6/7 guys play 10-14 minutes against only the easiest competition we'll be alright. |

I dunno 2nd line is a scoring line so it doesn't have to be especially defensive to be effective at it's purpose. |

That's what we tried with Parent and Krajicek. It didn't really work out that well.
Again, I think that Lauridsen and MAB can be serviceable bottom-pair defenders, but I don't think they're full-time NHL players right now.
I'm sorry, I don't want to be a downer, but I think the whole Lauridsen thing has been blown out of proportion. He's a fairly one-dimensional player who played a few good games (and a few very poor games) in late season "play out the string" duty. Yes, he showed that he can hang with the big kids for the most part, but he also showed that he leaves A LOT to be desired in terms of positioning, foot speed, and decision making. The best thing for him would be to play some tougher minutes in the AHL and be a 3rd pair call-up option if (when) needed for the Flyers. |

From what I read of Vinny's quotes, he wants to play on Girouxs right side. That would be interesting.
