You will be arguing this point until the day Streit and Lecavalier's contracts are up. - PhillySportsGuy
Once they join Pronger on the ltir squad, it'll be settled. |

Good discussion
I would like to see the flyers pairings look like this
Timonen/Gus
Streit/schenn
Grossman/coburn
What a luxury it would be for the flyers to utilize the 3rd pairing for top defensive zone draw assignments.
The timonen/Gustafson pairing was no fluke last year and you see more teams around the league unafraid to mate offensive minded dmen together
to maximize offensive opportunity
One example was the shattenkirk/Leopold tandem in st Louis
Besides I've seen enough from Gus to consider him a two way guy now

7.5M x 7 yrs would probably get STL's attention. It's probably a 0.5M a year overpayment but that's the game.
Laughton, Coburn and 2 1sts (starting in 2015) would be my first offer in trade. - phillydentist
That's what got Pronger. Pietrangelo is younger, so I imagine they would want Couturier instead of Laughton. |

I don't think the trade offer works, gonna have to top dollar to get grade A meat. |

I don't like the lecalvier NMC either. We're gonna be back at where we were with briere in two years again. |

If he played well in his own end, he'd basically be a younger, better point producing Kimmo Timonen and would cost 6.5M-7M - PhillySportsGuy
Well if he has to be hidden against other top lines and is going to be glued to the bench on the PK (for a team that leads the planet in taking penalties) he better be Paul Coffey circa 1985 on the PP. |

Unless you wanted to trade some of the young nucleus, then yes, sadly.
What happens in other markets directly affects the Flyers. when Getzlaff and Perry got $8mm per year, it pretty much ensured the same kind of price tag for Giroux. The Flyers do not exist in a bubble, where they can dictate to their players what the market will be.
Every team in the NHL faces the same issue. Term limits on contracts will mean a higher AAV for every good player, eventually. |

Don't get me wrong... I like him, but a shorter term would have been great.
I guess he held all cards... he wanted a long tern contract, and got it. - jimmc7722
Agree. Nothing you can do about it now. Have to live with the contract. |

Vinny is an under 35+ signing. The only worry is Streit.
By the end of Vinny's term, he may be the 3rd or 4th best center on the team. The cap will have gone up so much that it won't be that bad. Plus like I said its an under 35 contract.
Streit is the real worry for me. He already isn't very good on defense. He will only get worse. Plus he's over 35. |

That would be my first offer. I could negotiate with their GM from there.
If they don't like that trade proposal, they can feel free to match the OS. |

I would worry about putting Streit with Schenn. Seeing so many goals go in may not be good for Schenn's confidence. I want him with Timonen Grossmann or Gus. |

NMC don't bother me as much as before. Most players waive them when asked. There's a chance he doesn't but the Flyers will have to worry about that down the road if they look to move on from him. |

Again I disagree. The NHL is constantly in flux in terms of player availability. It's really like Texas hold'em to me. Unless you get dealt the right hand you fold and wait, of course in hold'em you can try bluffing but we can see both sides of the cards here. The flyers got better in the short term but handcuffed themselves to deals that are gonna hurt in three years... Again. |

It seems like they only waive when it's a chance to go to a promising contender and the flyers haven't been that in about 3 years. |

That's my one issue with it-it's a year too long for my taste. But I'm not going to moan and cry about it, because I'd rather not trade Couturier or Brayden Schenn for Keith Yandle. Actually, I don't want to trade one of them, plus other assets, for Yandle, because it would take more than just one of them.
I'd love to live in a bubble and poop all over every move I don't agree with 100%, but I have to consider all the factors, because I'm not rooting for a team in NHL13. |

Yes. Because people can't improve with age or by being in a different system. - youarewrong
You know, all those small, slow 35-year-old dmen that inexplicably blossom defensively when they land with a team that stresses a skating/aggressive style. |

I can see towards the end of the deal, LeCavalier would permit the Flyers to trade him back to TB. Maybe after 3-4 years. Just thinking it wouldn't surprise me to see that. |
