you guys can have niskanen for a broken stick if youd like to really shore up that back end - stayinthefnnet
Niskanen wasn't a bad throw in, in that Neal trade. Shero ate the Stars lunch. |

Can't really see Lindros, he's being blocked by Leclair. |

What scouts have said he's at best a #3? And Bill clearly said he has top pairing potential. It's going to take some time. But you know that going in. - MJL
Your missing the point. I am talking about our need for a top pairing player in the near future, and Morin is not the solution. In the next 3-6 years there is no-one we can count on to be that guy, outside of Schenn. Yes, in 3-4 years Morin could be on the team, but he wont be a top player the minute he enters the league. It will take time. So I can say he will likely be a 3-4 guy, with potential to be a top pairing guy down the line, but not in the next 6 years. |

I think a mobile 6'7" Luke Schenn would be a pretty good player |

Wow... Anyone that follows the Flyers on twitter, check out the size of John Leclair.
He looks like a stunt double for Dustin Byfuglien. - PLindbergh31
Tony Amonte has gotten fat, too. |

Renberg looks like he's still an active player.
I'm probably the only Flyers fan that had Renberg as their favorite player from the Legion of Doom line. |

I don't think anyone is arguing that Morin is the solution for the top D-man need in the next 3 years. But unless you start drafting those guys now, you won't have them coming through the pipes in the future. |

Can we get LeClair Lindros and Therien on a line at a charity even and call it "the legion of Kaboom." |

That's because Renny played until '09 over in Sweden, I think. |

I think I saw Amonte during the SCF doing commentary for some media outlet.
He looked like a fat guy wearing a rubber Tony Amonte suit. It was weird to see. |

From Bill's article today, "If they do get close to maximizing their potential, Morin has the ability to become a bigger, better-skating version of Luke Schenn."
If he does reach his potential, it is likely it wont be for another 6-8 NHL seasons. That is IF. All I am saying is we cant pencil him in as our future top liner. I think in 3-4 years we can pencil him in as a 3-4 guy that will be on a cheap contract, eliminating a need to pay a guy 5 million to do the same job, while we give him NHL time to see if he can develop into a top pairing guy.... Wish you guys would read what MJL is replying to because he usually takes bits of a post and takes it out of context. - youarewrong
Nothing was taken out of context. You clearly labeled Morin as having a ceiling of a #3 defenseman. And even suggested that Flyers were mistaken to use the #11 pick on him. And I just simply wanted to know what that was based on. |

Which is what I was saying. I said the current crops of defenseman look like they will be good and cheap replacements for our 3-6 guys that are currently making 3-5 million each. Somehow that turned into MJL saying that I think Morin will only be a top 3 defenseman. I'm just saying in 3-4 years he wont be that top 2 guy, and that we need to address that need now, or at least by next season.
The reality, Morin isnt the guy that is going to replace Timonen. He is the guy that is going to replace the guy that is replacing Timonen. |

I give Holmgren zero blame for Bryzgalov. He's not responsible. Bryzgalov was all Snider.
Bobrovsky is a complete Organizational failure. Laviolette, Holmgren, and Snider all are culpable. - PLindbergh31
I don't think the Bob deal should be categorized as a failure as of today. I think we should wait a couple years to determine if Bob's 2013 play was a fluke or not. Bob started off in Philly playing very well. The snipers in the east were stopped by him earlier on, but he became vulnerable. His second year, we saw a drop in performance. I will be curious to see if the snipers in the west figure him out, and start to light him up next year. |

eh. he started out pretty nice, but he has kind of regressed, and was an absolute wreck in the playoffs. danny b's love to play him and letang together was horrendous. the guy does have some skill, and is relatively cheap at around 2 mil, but the team needs to unload him pronto |

Bill and other have said he is 3-4 years away from being an NHL player. You don't just come up from the AHL and become a top line guy in 1-2 seasons. He will likely take 3-4 years to become a 3-4 defenseman, and another 3-4 years to become a top 2 player, if he reaches his potential. So that is about 6-8 years. That is too long to wait, and IMO no-one else will be a top pairing guy within the next 3-4 years either, except Schenn. To me that means, we will have to go out and get one. - youarewrong
I don't think anyone feels that drafting Morin has eliminated the Flyers need to upgrade the defense. |

Fair. But he's got a Vezina under his belt already. Not sure anything the Flyers got back in that deal will approach anything close to that. |

Oh yes, let me fall into this trap and say who I would trade Couturier for, so you can think of why this or that wouldn't work and draw us even further away from the original discussion of me saying that we cant count or any guy in our system to be a top pairing guy or replacement for Timonen in the near future. I'll just skip that part and just say we need to get a top pairing guy, and should be willing to pay what it reasonably costs to get them. Whether its Couts, Read, or whatever. It is much easier to replace a Couturier then it is to replace a Pronger. - youarewrong
For the right player, I would be okay with dealing Couturier. But that deal has to be available. |
