or for the right deal. starting to think that because both are somewhat devalued, a solid first 30 gms could heat up trade talks. homer wants that certain level dman.
i saw many posts here justifying the streit move saying it was an indicator that holmgren was steadfast in letting this core grow together and i simply dont believe it...not his MO. - isaiah520
I do feel that it's a sign that he's steadfast in keeping the young nucleus together.
However, he's also pragmatic enough to know that the team has more pressing needs and that he has to value an asset like those very highly and make certain he gets full value. |

Unless they can acquire a Pietrangelo type of player, I think you can safely assume that neither Couturier or B. Schenn will be moved. - bradleyc4

Not sure what the market is for Meszaros, being he only has one year left, you figure a team would be willing to take a chance on him. I know the return for him will be next to nothing if he is moved, it would be strictly a move to clear cap space. - PLindbergh31
Hence the verb "dump" |

I wait until the end of the month.... Then call poile and say let's get a weber deal done the right way. Start by packaging coby, coots, read, and our 1st next season and reminding poile cap recapture works when weber retires and how Seth Jones can be the next Weber. No guarantees it would work but poile is a business man so I'm sure he'd listen. |

If he traded 20 year old Couturiier for 23 year old Pietragelo I wouldn't feel heartbroken, as making a young player for young player trade like that doesn't really break up your young core, it kinda just shifts it around. |

he's always "looking to improve our team" and while it might take until mid season or so, i don't think couts/schenn are safe by any means.
and w/ the ridiculous haul that clownshow just left w/, the current situation in goal should be palatable to the fan base and at least an slight upgrade . - isaiah520
The way I look at the goaltending situation is, it is significantly better than Boucher/Leighton. That tandem had the Flyers within two games of a Cup. Granted the team surrounding them was better. If the Flyers can show more of a commitment in their own end, I'm cautiously optimistic the goaltending will be a pleasant surprise. |

It's a clear indication that he is steadfast in letting this core grow together. The only real fallacy here is thinking that if an opportunity presents itself, to add a key player for the future, and fill a need, by including part of that core in a trade. Somehow violates that willingness to keep the core together. You always look to make the team better. Now if he trades one of the young players for a 30 year old veteran, you might have a point. |

I think you could definitely make the argument that the team is better now than it was then. If Voracek continues his scoring "renaissance", and G plays at his regular high level, then the Giroux/Voracek duo is better than the Richards/Carter duo I think. We don't have Pronger, so ya I don't think our defense is better now, but our forward corp is definitely better. |

Nor would anyone. That's the kind of deal we'd all be on board with. Making a deal like that would be a great hockey trade, regardless of trading away a piece of the young nucleus. |

what type of trade do you envision homer making involving one of those two at this juncture, that doesn't involve a franchise defenseman? |

Stanley cups aren't won with contracts - the hawks had 2 bad ones (monty, olesz) - and still have Keith and hossa on cap recapture contracts. Webers cap hit is something like $7.25 which is fantastic for his skill set and age. I don't really care about 10 years from now. A lot can happen between then and now... Including a new CBA negotiation. Weber at $7.25 to sure up the #1 spot for the next 7 years is worth whatever happens after that IMO. Long shot but still worth the call. |

That's the thing, if he wanted to, he probably could have had Yandle or similar by now. I don;t think he goes that route unless it becomes an absolute necessity. |

The contract wouldn't cause me any hesitation whatsover in acquiring Weber. I like the contract. The cost in acquiring him, might cause me to balk. But that involves speculation. |

I would disagree. Not sure how you can proclaim a team that is coming off missing the playoffs is better than a team two games from a Championship. There is nice potential with this team, but there is some real concerns. A lot of them revolve around the health. If Meszaros is moved for a bag of pucks, and Grossmann can't stay on the ice there are some legit concerns on the backend. |

I agree. His cap hit is 7.8 but that's besides the point. It would just come down to what the cost in player assets would be. |

Cups aren't won on contracts, but by teams. They Flyers would have to gut a lot of what is in place to trade for Weber, on top of the onerous contract.
Also, if Weber is traded, Nashville is still open to cap recapture penalties if Weber retires early. I'd rather go another route.
EDIT: Also, as great as Weber is, he's been out of the first round one time in his career. Can't do it alone |

If he retires in 2022 or something, the recapture penalty is pretty bad (4M or so, depending on when aquired). But who knows... that may be written out of the next CBA. If it was put in, it could be taken away. If they were to win the cup in the next 10 years, the Flyers could probably care less about recapture though. |

none, because i don't think they have that value right now or a deal would have been made already. he doesn't want to sell low. |

Combined with the cost to acquire, to me it's a non consideration. A blown out knee or eye injury, and they'd be (frank)ed. |

If that's what the penalty is, 4M will be peanuts on the Cap then. I'll take that risk. I won't let something that might happen stop me from acquiring a player like Weber. |
