That's my belief as well. The other stuff didn't help, but the driving factor was that he was an overall average(at best) goalie with an elite level commitment from the team.
Agreed wholeheartedly that the fact that Holmgren is still employed shows that Snider's fingerprints are all over the Bryz deal - Jsaquella
Sure the circus atmosphere surrounding Bryzgalov didn't help his cause. Made the decision that much easier to move on. If he was stopping the puck at a .920% level, it's easy to overlook all the .peripherals. When you are providing what amounts to replacement level numbers, coupled with the distractions that accompanied them, the decision becomes a no brainer. |

If the Giroux suffered a career ending injury, he could retire, come off the cap and not be a LTIR case for a decade. IF Weber had a career ending injury, he's either a 13 year Pronger, or a cap recapture deadspace for 13 years. - Jsaquella
If Weber had a career ending injury, what are the chances of him retiring, and walking away from all that money? And Giroux waslking away from that money? Not going to happen. Cap recapture is off the books in the case of a player getting a career ending injury. That risk no longer exists in that case. So therefore it is the same exact sitation as Giroux getting a career ending injury. And it would be the same, both player stuck on long term LTIR. So if we're going to worry about concussions and career ending injuries, they shouldn't have signed Giroux to an 8 year extension. |

Haha, good analogy. It's utterly annoying and I want to punch faces every time I read about Bobby Ryan or Shea Weber. |

Larry Brooks says on twitter tht Ryan McDonagh's 6 year extension is at $4.7mm a year - Jsaquella
So if he is 24 years old now, that means by signing that deal he gives up 3 years of being a UFA.
I think the Ranges did really well on this deal. |

Because he's a kid that needs ice time to develop. If he's th 13th forward here, he's seeing spotty ice time at best, easy way to stagnate the kid's development. Let him see 12-15 minutes a night as a Phantoms and learn to be a pro. - Jsaquella
I think on the 4th line he could be getting 10 minutes an night in the NHL easily. Believe it or not Rinaldo average 8:30 TOI, and Hall averaged 11:00 TOI. You just have to decide whether 10 minutes a night in the NHL is more valuable then 14 minutes a night in the AHL. |

So, what do you guys think the Sens would ask for Bobby Ryan?
Also, did we get Seth Jones yet? |

So since Pronger suffered a career ender he could retire now and it'd carry no cap penalty? |

What will we talk about after Pietrangelo signs his long term deal with the Blues this summer? |

Different situation, Pronger's on a 35+ contract. |

It covers two UFA years. It's awfully high for a 2nd contract, imo. |

While I agree with everything you said Bill, in all likeliness none of these players will be around for 4-5 years and at that point I see our offense being in a decline stage. The Flyers need a solution NOW, that's the only problem. I still believe all the way down to the bone that the biggest problem is Lavy's system. I know he tweaked his system last year (halfway through) in an attempt to help out the less mobile D-men but we will be returning essentially the same core and I still don't see this system working. - ICUBB
Do you not know the age of the Flyers forward core?
How can you say you that offense being in a decline stage when all the main players will still be 30 or under? |

At this point, I'd rather dissect Sam Morin's kayak skills during the "Trial on the Isle" (or whatever they call it nowadays) than to pine over a d-man that the Blues aren't going to let get away. |

We have to wait for the Senators to become sellers at the trade deadline and hope to acquire Bobby Ryan. |
