Because it helps keep other local businesses afloat, it gives more people jobs, it can be used as an activity to bring in tourists between the end of football season and beginning of baseball season.

I'm wondering why the NHL is trying so hard to keep them there. Moving the team to another area will create more jobs and bring in more tourists.

It's not like Phoenix or Florida are great NFL or MLB areas. The Rays and Marlins are probably the least watched teams in baseball.

You can add in the Cardinals and Jags as well. Not sure about Dolphins, but they do at least have some prestige.

Carbonneau also won 3 Cups with 2 different teams (1 as a captain) and won 3 Selke Trophies. Considered one of the best defensive forwards in history. But since offensive stats are all that matter, sure Brindy is better.

I know that if I was asked to have one on my team, I'd take Carbonneau.

Nobody has said that Carbonneau doesn't belong in the Hall. You made the comparison. Which was a poor one. It seemed as though you were not aware of Brind'Amour's numbers.

I'm all for moving them or outright dissolving them, as well as Florida and TB. But there are non-hockey-related reasons why they do bring in money to the city.

What do you expect Brayden Schenn to be someday? Please do not say Mike Richards...

Kris versteg? I hope not but if he doesn't progress alot this year ( like he supposed to do last year) I can see this unfortunately happening

Ideally I'd like someone with a little more size + skill on Couturiers RW other than Talbot so that Talbot can help anchor the 4th line, but Talbot has proven many times he can play well almost anywhere in the line-up. So I wouldn't mind it. I also wouldnt mind rearranging everything a little bit so that the full roster looks like this.

McGinn-Giroux-Voracek
Hartnell-Lecavlier-Read
Schenn-Couturier-Simmonds
Talbot-Laughton/Hall-Hall/Rinaldo
-Rosehill/Newbury

With our current logjam at forward, barring unforseen trades I think Laughton should start in the AHL strictly due to the numbers. He can be brought back up later if necessary.

- mochoson

McGinn doesn't look out of place on the 1st line, but at the same time I wouldn't bank on him being there. Unless we're playing our 4th line for 5 minutes a game so that 3rd line gets as much time as the 2nd line, I wouldn't want Schenn and Simmonds down there.

I'm absolutely aware that Brindy was a more offensive player that Carbonneau. I think there's more to hockey than scoring goals, and I think Carbonneau was superior to Rod in most other areas (besides abs).

I think he means they'll try him out for 10 games before his rookie contract kicks in and then send him back to the QMJHL.
- JAKEw1234

The salary cap might prevent that.

Look at it this way. Brind'amour has one less selke. Two less Cups but if memory series a guy like Ray Bourque only has one himself. He had to be traded to a better team to get it. Brind'amour's offense I would think balances his game out to equal what Guy Carbonneau was. Carbonneau may have been handed better teams then what Brind'amour had to work with. It does kind of sound like you might be discounting offense...for some reason....

The thing I hate is havin revenue sharing and supporting failing teams and allowing them to compete by signing FA's with other teams money.

Nashville was on the verge of bankruptcy but was able to throw almost 30 million at Weber. Bad teams need to fail and move. Crony Capitalism doesn't work, even with hockey teams.

Since you understand the CBA, can you tell me if this is true:

There are only 2 ways a player from junior can spent a partial season in the NHL. Either the first 10 games as a tryout, or as an emergency callup. Is that correct? They can't just call him up for a number of games past opening night unless it's on an emergency basis.

Is that going to be the measuring stick for Brind'Amour to get in the Hall? What is the premise of the conversation? Who's better, Brind'Amour or Carbonneau? Or is it does Brind'Amour deserve to be in the Hall of Fame?

If we are very lucky he comes to being the player Richards is. If we're not lucky, he'll be exactly what he is right now. An NHL player, but not elite.

Laughton is not eligible to play in the AHL. It's either the FLyers or back to Juniors. And if you have McGinn on your first line. You're in trouble. No knock on the kid. But put him in a position to succeed. Not a spot that he's not capable of playing in.
- MJL

I thought Laughton's Junior eligibility was up? When does he turn 20?

And I think McGinn is more than capable of playing with Giroux and Jake. He has the proper skill-set and acumen to fill the role Hartnell had on that line IMO: creating tons of space for Roo and Jake.

I was thoroughly impressed with his cup of coffee this past season. I think it's something that's worth a shot. There have been plenty of lines like this tried in the history of the NHL on many teams that didn't look good on paper, but a coach tried them and it worked amazing.

I think trying McGinn with Giroux and Jake couldn't hurt. He may not pile up 50+ points (although playing with those two, it wouldn't surprise me), but he's gonna do all the little things right to make that line that much better. I'd like to see it at least tried out.

Also means a guy like Hartnell, who has proven in his career to be an effective and legit 1st line player, is now a dangerous piece on a 2nd or 3rd line that most NHL teams can't say they have the luxury of having.

Yes, that is the case. And the emergency call up can only be for so many games. There are strict guidelines for that. Don't know what they are off hand.

First of all, Ray Bourque is considered possibly the best all-around defenseman to ever play the game besides Bobby Orr. That alone gets him in, Cup or no Cup.
And I'm not discounting offense. I believe Guy was better than Rod in most other areas of the game, and for my money, I'd take him over Rod.

My premise is that Carbonneau is more deserving, so until he gets in, I don't believe Rod should.

Just an interesting combo I think could work. With the versatility our line-up has, I doubt theres gonna be even one line that sticks for more than a month prior to the Olympic break unless they really, really gel.

I think they'd probably just give him a few games in preseason to get his feet wet over real season games.
