Wish he would've signed for 2 or 3 yrs at that number - Just5
I don't hate Gus, and I like him at 1mil, but I don't see a long term plan for him in Philly. |

It only hurts if the player is supposed to be a top line player. He could be getting valuable PP time and minutes with a Junior team instead of sitting on the bench.
In Laughton's case, he is a defensive agitator already. The 4th line is really the perfect starting point for him. Maybe mix in a little PK time if they feel he's ready. - PhillySportsGuy
It didn't hurt Doug Gilmour. He spent most of his first two NHL seasons as a 4th liner.
The thing with Laughton is, they have options. If he does earn it, they find a way to fit him in. If there's any doubt, he can go back to juniors and dominate and the Flyers can slide the contract |

I think Mogilny deserves to be in. The season he had in 92-93 was amazing. I think he scored 76 goals in 76 games. |

Chances are he will never be a top 6 forward on this team. So let him play on the 4th line and earn some ice time on the 3rd line. - Flyersgod
Problem is, he's going to be paid like a 3rd liner from Day 1.
I simply disagree that he HAS to be on the team this year. |

Kimmo Timonen is 38 and expected to retire after this season. Mark Streit is 35. The two best offensive defensemen in the Flyers system, Shayne Gostisbehere and Robert Hagg, are probably two or three seasons away from being regular NHLers, let alone impact players.
If he continues to play like he did at the end of last season and during the World Championships, I see a role for him for several years. |

The question I always ask is, "Whats better for him AND the Flyers"? Should the Flyers give him another shot, and he doesnt look out of place, should they send him back?
Here is my take. The kid is never going to be an offensive powerhouse (ala Towes). He likely wont ever be an above average point scorer (50+). So, letting him play against physically smaller, younger, less matured players, and put up points... Is that going to help him improve?
What about playing 12 minutes a night against the best competition in the world? - jak521
Ok now lets look at it from the Flyers side. Do we send the kid down, making him a year older before reaching ufa, spending less on our cap, when we are already very deep at the position he plays.
Also, will he help us out as much in his rookie year as a veteran that has played against the best in the world and you know what you are getting at half the cap hit.

Yeah, IF.
I'm skeptical of our defensive prospects etc. Manning looked good for a while, has he progressed at all? |

I don't care either way. However, i'd rather send him down. Don't think he's gonna do much yet. |

Manning hasn't had anything close to the sustained success that Gustafsson has had. Gustafsson's biggest issue has been staying healthy. Manning's biggest issue has been poor play. |
