False. We really only have to trade Mezaros, and no one expects to get any good return for him to begin with, because of his injuries. Trade him for a 4th rounder and we could actually call it a summer if really wanted to. - JAKEw1234
So what if it is only a 6th now. |

I hear lots of people complain but I love those WC jerseys. It's my favourite jersey of all time supplanting the white Red Wings jersey. - mayorofangrytown
agreed, I wish they would wear them as an alternate more often |

Take it and roll on. We're not trying to trade Mez for value, we're trying to dump him. |

Exactly
At this point I would be fine with just moving Mez for whatever you can get for him and going with the following roster:
14 forwards
Hartnell-Giroux-Voracek
B Schenn-Lacavalier-Simmonds
McGinn or Talbot-Couturier-Read
Talbot or Hall-Laughton-Rinaldo or Rosehill
7 defensemen
Timonen-Schenn
Coburn-Streit
Grossmann-Gustafsson
Gervais or Bourdon
2 goalies
Mason & Emery

This
Most teams that have played in the WC wear their's as alternates, but for some reason we have the (second) best WC jerseys and we can't wear them ever? |

May have to absorb half the cap hit. Though more likely to get a prospect (low-mid tier) back the more we eat. The more cap the other team absorbs, the less we will get back.
I think Homer is smart to wait until the market softens on an already mediocre crop of D-men. And also for Mez to even be cleared physically. |

Not if we trade his one year deal to a cap floor team. I could see us having to eat a little of his real salary, but that wouldn't affect our cap hit, and we'd only have to cause it's considerably higher than his cap hit. |

Good point. Assuming he's healthy by camp and can participate in games, he will all of sudden become very valuable when another team loses a dman with a long term injury during camp. At that point, who knows, they might even get a 2nd rounder for him. |

Gervais possibly waived coupled with a trade of a defenseman, which many have been predicting - GirouxForTheShow
I would love for Bruno Gervais to be gone! Boudon could do it as good if not better. I also worry about his ability to stay healthy with his concussion history. |

Well they would be the trade targets, yes.
I thought teams can demand a team absorbs up to 50% of cap hit? Aside from true salary?
Can someone clarify? |

Colorado needs ANY defenseman, and they're a cap floor team, so I could see them being a very realistic option. I doubt we'd have to eat cap hit if he's traded to a cap floor team that has no cap worries. |

Yes I think they can ask for that, but why would a cap floor team ask for that if it's not a problem for them, and it would raise his price because of that? |

NHL - Source reports Oilers have reached out to the Jets about Zach Bogosian, nothing imminent but the talks are ongoing. |

I just think cap floor teams will just overpay some stiff in free agency instead. |

Most of the best players are gone already
I think that's why Homer's waiting so long to get it done, he's waiting for the FA market to cool down; that way when a cap floor team totally loses out on free agency, and one of them will inevitably, he can give them a cheap option that could potentially help them. |

We don't really know that. I think Bourdon is going to compete with Gervais for a spot on the team. If Bourdon can get back to the player he was before the concussion. I prefer Bourdon over Gervais. But I have no problems with Gervais as the 7th defenseman. |

RETAINED SALARY TRANSACTIONS
Teams can retain a percentage of a contract’s remaining cap hit, salary and bonuses in trades. The following stipulations apply:
No more than 50 per cent of the salary/cap hit can be retained
Salary/cap hit cannot be retained on more than three contracts in one season
The aggregate cap hits retained cannot exceed 15 per cent of the upper limit
A contract can be traded only twice where salary/cap hit is retained
