Should the Flyers not sign Gagne, should we be okay with having only Giroux, Talbot, Read, Hall and Couturier as penalty killers? All in the name of simply giving McGinn a chance? Let's say one of these players gets hurt or god forbid two, then what?

Then you rely on the depth you place in the AHL and deal with it like they do every year.

What team has more then 5 PKers? Players like Voracek can also be used. I know you want Gagne re-signed. But in my opinion, Gagne is only going to be re-signed if the Flyers exhaust all other moves, and there is Cap space left. If they were definitely going to re-sign Gagne, they would have done it already.

RETAINED SALARY TRANSACTIONS

Teams can retain a percentage of a contract’s remaining cap hit, salary and bonuses in trades. The following stipulations apply:

No more than 50 per cent of the salary/cap hit can be retained
Salary/cap hit cannot be retained on more than three contracts in one season
The aggregate cap hits retained cannot exceed 15 per cent of the upper limit
A contract can be traded only twice where salary/cap hit is retained

- MJL

Good info here

Flyers will prob have to eat some of Mez salary

I am guessing, Bc it doesn't say otherwise. The amount of salary retained doesn't have to mirror the cap hit?

For instance. The flyers could work a trade where they trade Mez and eat 2 mil in salary but only 500k in cap hit?

You are irritable today
No I was just wondering if we could trade part of Mez's real salary, and let the team he's traded to retain all of his cap hit. It makes sense, as a cap floor team isn't worried about cap hit, but is worried about real salary. As a cap ceiling team, we're worried about cap hits, and not real salaries.

Well my question is who is reliable in our minor league system to become a key penalty killer with the big club? From my understanding Wellwood is a no go and Holmstrom has had injury issues of his own. Of course you can slot Voracek in but even so, I would rather players like giroux and voracek to play as little PK as possible. Let's relieve Giroux of all the faceoffs and the pk.

If I may be so bold. I could careless for giving more kids a chance. Giroux, Voracek, Simmonds, Mason, Couturier, Gustafsson, Luke and Brayden Schenn are all young as it is. I care about having the proper pieces to win a Cup and I know what a hard working player like Gagne can do, even after a down year for his standards.
