do you view the flyers as a legitimate cup contender this year?

Like Homer said, we're a playoff contender, and once you get to the playoffs, anything can happen.

As great a player Briere was in the playoffs, you've gotta get there first. Lecavalier is a pretty solid regular season guy who may have needed the pressures of playing in front of a sold out crowd for a long time now. I like the mix of skill, size and toughness. On paper the Bruins might be tougher but it gives me chills to have Lecavalier, Hartnell, Simmonds, the Schenn Brothers, Coburn, Grossman, Rinaldo and Rosehill and even a tough goalie like Ray Emery in our line up. Oh there will be blood!

And McGinn and Hall
But don't forget Lecavalier is still good in the playoffs. He was 52 points in 63 playoff games.

Hockey doesn't sleep
Atleast, I wish it didn't. It's been dead recently. Not even many rumors.

Like I said, I couldn't careless if Laughton or McGinn make the team. I just know what I'm getting from a healthy Gagne. For once Gagne is coming off a healthy season but a lack of production. Before it was the other way around. Either way, Gagne's play away from the puck is still superb. Nobody ever notices that. I just like the idea of being able to fill Gagne into any situation if another young player goes down to injury. Let's go all in!!

I'm a little surprised that there isn't a little more urgency to get Meszaros out so Gustafsson has a clear path to become a full time Flyer in the top six. You move Mez out for cap space and add a third line winger. I'm also willing to consider Brendan Morrow who has a balanced two way game and a warrior in my mind. Moving Meszaros go me should be a priority.

Maybe they realized that Keith The Thief is wearing Freddie The Fog's jacket?

Good info here

Flyers will prob have to eat some of Mez salary

I am guessing, Bc it doesn't say otherwise. The amount of salary retained doesn't have to mirror the cap hit?

For instance. The flyers could work a trade where they trade Mez and eat 2 mil in salary but only 500k in cap hit?

- Just5

No, that is not the case. If the Flyers retain 2M of Meszaros salary, they have to carry 2M on the Cap for him.

You are irritable today
No I was just wondering if we could trade part of Mez's real salary, and let the team he's traded to retain all of his cap hit. It makes sense, as a cap floor team isn't worried about cap hit, but is worried about real salary. As a cap ceiling team, we're worried about cap hits, and not real salaries.

No fear, I got 4(!) hours of sleep last night. I'm well rested and less irritable today.

Not if we trade his one year deal to a cap floor team. I could see us having to eat a little of his real salary, but that wouldn't affect our cap hit, and we'd only have to cause it's considerably higher than his cap hit.
- JAKEw1234

Yes, it would affect the Cap. There is no free money paid to players.

so if we eat 25% salary we MUST also eat 25% cap hit?

Yes!

Nice... my boy is 16 months now.. on average I get about 5-7 hours. Although my wife is the one who gets up with him every time he pops up.

3-6 months old was easy breezy. 6-9 was a little rough with all the new things he was trying to do (crawl than stand), 9-12 was a nightmare until he learned to walk, and 12-15 was pretty easy. 15-16 has been rough so far, trying to put things into electrical outlets, pulling things off the counter, opening up my DVD collection and removing the DVDs to push them all over the floor, climbing furniture and diving face first onto the floor etc.

Still wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

Mez still needs to be cleared first medically before we can trade him. I don't believe that has happened yet. Once it does, I think he'll be moved. I'd love Morrow, but i am not sure that just getting rid of Mez would cover his hit.

I'd rather get Gagne signed before thinking about Morrow.

Would be nice if we could get Gagne for about 1.5... doubtful... but would be nice.
