I think that we will resign Gagne. He even said he'd take less money to play here. Just not sure how much less. |

and then there's this:
this is is the image posted at the top of seravali's story on shero's induction to the HHOF on philly.com this morning.

They need to educate the unpaid intern that likely did this on what Freddie Shero actually looks like. |

do you view the flyers as a legitimate cup contender this year? - stayinthefnnet
More of a playoffs contender than a cup contender imo, but anything can happen once the playoffs start. |

I'd rather get Gagne signed before thinking about Morrow.
Would be nice if we could get Gagne for about 1.5... doubtful... but would be nice. - Flyersgod
If you could have Gagne at $1.5M/2 years or Jagr at $3M for one year, who would you take? Keep in mind how much your captain who just a signed an 8-year extension has been vouching to bring Jagr back. |

As long as they're in contention, it's really just a matter of everything falling into place at the right time (that is, down the stretch). I'm not rushing off to Vegas to put money down, but hope springs eternal, m i rite? |

Flyers already have multiple in-house options for 3rd line winger (assuming Couturier/Read are the other two on the line): Talbot, McGinn, Laughton |

Barring a forward being traded, I'm leaning toward agreeing with you. I'd like to have Gagne back. But they're probably better off trading Meszaros. Keeping Pronger off of LTIR, and banking some Cap space. Give some of the young kids a shot, and let's roll! |

Mez still needs to be cleared first medically before we can trade him. I don't believe that has happened yet. Once it does, I think he'll be moved. I'd love Morrow, but i am not sure that just getting rid of Mez would cover his hit. - watson1195
I'm pretty sure that you can trade in injured player as long as the team getting the player accepts the trade and is informed of the injury. It is more likely that they don't have any takers until he is medically cleared. |

Trade and or Waive and demote. - MJL
A one-way deal just means he's paid the same rate wherever he plays. Not that he can't be demoted. But I don't know his waiver status. |

There is the problem/culprit right there. it was seravelli. although it could have been anyone of the stiffs over there either. - wtfd103074
Not that I want to defend Seravelli, but the writer has nothing to do with either the graphics or the headlines on any story. |

Not sure what you're referring to there. But I'm aware of the difference between a one way and two way deal. |

I have to disagree. I think this team is deep offensively and defensively. The only queston mark is goalie. If one of the goalies has a good season, then they are a cup contendor.
IMO there are 2 ways to win the cup. 1. You can win it on star power, with either a top notch first/second line, or a top notch goalie, or a top notch defense. 2. You can win it by having a deep team. Your top lines can match other teams top lines, but your bottom lines outscore/out play the other bottom lines. This is the type of team Philly has.
Recent examples of deep teams that won, or came close are LA, NJ, Boston, Philly. |

LA and Boston both had dominating #1 defenseman, and Goalies who played out of their minds. I beleive in the get in the playoffs and anything can happen mantra. But realistically, the Flyers are not a true contender. They are short on defense, and they need some young players to mature further to get to that status. |

While I agree that they are a deep team, there are still question marks:
Can Emery or Mason be a #1 goalie that can take a team on a cup run?
Will Couturier and B Schenn take a big step forward in their development?
Can the D stay healthy?
Can Timonen still be a top pair guy at age 38?
Also while they have improved, there are still better teams out there: Chicago, St. Louis, Los Angeles, Boston and Pittsburgh for sure and possibly the Rangers, the Red Wings, San Jose and Anaheim.
I could see the Flyers finishing anywhere from 2nd to 6th in their division and while I think they will make the playoffs, it's certainly not a lock.
To me they are a probable playoff team, and a longshot to win the Cup. |

I like our depth, but I'm still a bit uncertain about it until we see how they come together on the ice. Elements last season's team lacked have been added, the talent should be a better mix. I don't think we're on par with the top contenders of this past season yet (though I think we can get under the Pens' skin again ), but in a full 82 game season, who knows how things shake out? I know I said we're not a 'cup contender' and I do stand by that. I still like our odds, all things considered. Just gotta make it to the dance. |
