You can't call Goulbourne a bad pick. Have you even seen the kid play a game yet? Why don't you give him a bit of a chance to develop before you write him off as a bad pick in the third round? For all you know the kid will turn into the next Marchand. - mayorofangrytown
Well he would have to more than double his point productivity in junior to reach marchands junior level for comparisons sake

I think you were a little harsh on the draft and a bit lenient on everything else. The 1st and second rounds are by far the most important picks. He seems to have gotten 2 future top 4 defenseman. Z2 was a bad pick, but even if he develops into a 4th line player the Flyers will come away with a nice haul for this draft assuming no one else develops into anything. - PhillySportsGuy
I dont think I was too harsh on the draft. I wont argue with the Hagg pick, but I think Morin was a reach at 11. There is way to much development that has to go on with him, when there were safer picks, with just has high potential in Morressey and Pullock. They too have high potential, but IMO will be ready much sooner. I would have preferred to move up in the draft to get a ready now player with impact, and if that wasnt available I would rather have moved down to select whoever was left between Morin, Morressey, and Pullock. If you could have done that you might have ended up with one of the above, Hagg, plus either Shinkaruk or Fucale. possibly.

I think the moves collectively made by Homer make the Flyers tougher to play against, starting with face-offs. G, Vinny, and Hall are all good face off guys. This helps the Flyers dictate play versus chase like when they were not winning a lot of draws (except for G) last season. Plus, G doesn't have to be counted on for every big faceoff, especially defensive zone draws.
Getting Mason (a goalie good with the puck) will help the Flyers not get hemmed in their zone hopefully reducing turnovers. Add Streit's puck skills and the Flyers transition game should show the most improvement next season.
I feel this team is a contender right now, assuming health (which we know is never guaranteed). |

The Coyotes are averaging 16,223 household viewers each game which nearly doubled last years numbers.
The Jets got 148,000 viewers for their home opener. 500,000 at least checked in during the game.
It's not even close. - mayorofangrytown
You can't compare the home opener with an average game. Do you know how many people watched Conans first show? Do you know how many people still watch his show? |

I didn't mean it like that. I meant to say that Homer seemed to reach on him based on most projections. He seems like a guy they could have gotten later.

Meh. The cap isn't doing anything close to what it is supposed to do. Many teams that were have-not's in the "old" NHL are still on the outside looking in. - Flyskippy
I still stand by that whole 'the Maple Leafs couldn't buy a single cup between the first expansion and the 2004 lockout' thing. |

Phoenix has approx. 17k households viewing per game. Have to think the # in Winnipeg is quite a bit higher. |

I trust the Flyers scouts on the Morin pick. They rarely steer the team wrong in the first round. Especially when they take Canadian players. I wouldn't be surprised if Morin ends up being the best (Except for Jones) defenseman in this draft. |

This is why they give out $250 jerseys to season ticket holders. They desperately need gate receipts.
Such a joke having a franchise down there. |

We should also not count out certain players. I think Brayden Schenn is in prime position to have a break out season with career highs. Lecavalier could have a rejuvenated season. Mason could finally find his game that made him a first rounder to begin with. If not Mason, Emery is a battler and has what of takes to be a number 1 in his own right. Plenty of sleeper picks in this line up. |

LaCavelier, Streit and Emery for $11.3m.
Roughly equivalent to Briere and Bryzgalov.
I think it is okay. Not sure it represents the opportunity for a major move in the standings. - spatso
I think it is interesting that the Flyers are bringing in two new players who were captains on their former clubs. Homer likes this, bringing in proven leaders has been a sucessful tactic for motivating the lockeroom. I'm suspecting they need it after Bryz's distractions. Two captains and a goalie who has redecticated himself to being a team first player while still being a guy who truly hates to lose. It reminds me of when they brought over Briere, Kimmo and Jason Smith after the last time they missed the playoffs. You can never have too many leaders. |

Advertising dollars is more than just eye balls, but obviously, it's a factor.
Average income of that area is also a factor. I'm not familiar with Winnipeg enough as a city to make any sort of value judgement from that perspective.
I am glad, though, that they have their team back. |

C'mon... 16,000 people a game.
Only Colorado, Columbus and Florida have fewer people watching their games.
