F Regin. Stuipidest signing by Snow since Reasoner. Waste of a roster spot. I'd rather see Nelson or Strome get a shot (if they're ready) than waste a spot on Regin. Regin's going to be a healthy scratch or a BPT player by November. - Jethro09
Didnt think he was that bad a player a couple years ago (before injury) with Ottawa. Signing doesnt really make sense, since it might cause a blockage of a younger player but that shouldnt matter if he is being out played. |

You act as if Donovan should be given a medal for this. He's a prospect. that's what prospects are supposed to do. Keep their (and their agent's) mouths shut and play. Instead of logging bottom pair minutes or being a scratch at the NHL level, the Isles let him get serious minutes in the "A" and develop his game.
Whoever plays better between de Haan and Donovan at camp should make the team. - Jethro09

Who knows 6'2 with speed. Maybe like some of the guys in the past he just needs a legit shot. If the other guys out play him then they will stick and Regin will be sent down or scratched. What's the harm in trying to find another diamond in the rough? - Vukota
0-3-3 in 27 games last year in Ottawa. That's one rough diamond. |

Yes, he should get a medal. I'll start an online campaign or whatever
I put that point third for a reason, anyway, but no one's addressed the two more important ones... |

Nobody is saying they don't want to see Donovan make the team. I think the consensus is to let Donovan earn his spot and not annoint him as among the top six based on past performance in the "A", college and in pee wees.
Its clear that one of Donovan or de Haan are going to make the team (barring any unforseen trades or signings). I doubt that de Haan will be able to get onto the ice from the locker room without hurting himself, but if he can and outplays Donovan in camp, why shouldn't de Haan get the nod? |

That doesnt necassarily mean anything... You can look at Moulson and Grabner, both couldnt play consistent enough hockey to stay in the lineup prior to the Islanders... Maybe a change in scenery or system will help him. Maybe Franz will help him. |

Exactly!!. Only 27 and he signed cheap so no risk in it. If he works out great if the kids out play him and earn a spot even better |

Depends what you mean by "outplay." As I said before, if deHaan blows Donovan away, that's one thing. If they both look good with a slight edge to deHaan, I give it to Donovan, even if just for 15-20 games. deHaan has more question marks that need to be answered beyond a single camp performance, such as how he looks in real game situations coming off that injury, and especially whether he can stay healthy in real game situations. Let him answer those in the AHL while also rewarding a player who has put in the time, has a good attitude and no question marks besides how his game will translate to the NHL...and there's only one way to answer that one. |

I think Donovan makes the team, but if Dehaan earns it over him I'm fine with that as well. Maybe they both make it and Carkner & Hickey are a healthy scratch every night |

Maybe. I'd wager Strome would be less rah-rah if relegated to a fourth-line role for the entire season, which would be a comparable situation. Fortunately, the Isles won't do that to Strome. He'll either get quality minutes as a scoring forward (at center or wing) or be a first liner in BPort. - UIF
Here's the deal, though: they had no choice. It was either that, or score 200 points playing with children in the WHL, and be another year behind defensively. He should have been in Bridgeport, but the rules wouldn't allow it. I'm just having a hard time believing that wasn't explained to him. If he had kept his mouth shut and worked hard at learning his job in his own end of the ice, I guarantee he'd have been given a shot at the Boyes spot this September. |

Remember that Calvin de Haan was the final cut from #Isles' training camp in his DRAFT YEAR. - jimmc7722
Thats all well and good, but this training camp coming up will make that final cut 5 seasons ago.. FIVE!
If it were last season, id go.. Ohhhh awesome
If it were 2 seasons ago id go... Sweet he's had extra development
if it was 3 seasons ago id start to wonder what is stopping him from making the jump
if it was 4 seasons ago id wonder how bad our D was in 09
Its 5 seasons ago... im a whole lot less excited about ALMOST making the cut half a decade ago. I know the kid has talent & everything... I want him to be a stud, but id be happy with a serviceable player at this point.
