Jake is also under control for a few more years, at a very reasonable cap hit, assuming his offense stays where it's at or gets better. - Jsaquella
definitely. i think his offense at the very least stays the same. he was potting a lot of goals last year, but even if that pace can be streaky, he is a top notch playmaker. i also think he has some two way game potential in him as well. within a years time, i think his contract will be viewed as one of the best in the nhl, which is great for any team but especially one like nashville who survives on a budget. |

i dont blame you for balking. if you arent very hesitant at the deal, nashville is being dumb. and later bud. |

Read is also older. He's 27, where Voracek isn't even 24 yet, and Schenn and Couturier are both under 22.
The other factor is the sexy factor, names that will put asses in seats. Not sure Read, Coburn and Cousins do that - Jsaquella
When it comes to trades and youth going the other way, sometimes the names is all that matters, even beyond skill sets. I'm glad someone noticed. This might be the reason why I would rather keep Schenn and Couturier over names like Read and Voracek. Right now I'm sentimental to all four names. We need them all and should only look to add. |

To be honest, I don't think the Flyers trade for Weber. If they were going to trade for him why get Striet? I think the Striet move proves they dont want to move the young core and keep them together. Once Mez gets cleared I think, as Jsaq put it, he gets traded for cap space. Once that happens I think the Flyers have a really competitive team. |

Weber's contract was a poison pill before the CBA and is an albatross after. Weber is the best dman in the league but I don't want that contract and give up assets for it.
Holmgren seems dead set on keeping the young nucleus together. Just offer sheet AP or Bogosian and call it a summer. - phillydentist
That contract wouldn't stop me for a second, if I had the chance to acquire Weber. 7.8M for a player of his caliber. Only the cost of acquiring him would give me pause.
