Moving Vanek is a mistake, I know the situation however it's a mistake IMO.

Vanek is a complimentary piece, you dont build around him, you add him when you need that final piece. I.E., Hossa, Carter

If we retain some of vaneka salary it could save pitt money since neal makes 5m for 3 more yeara...

Maybe if we throw in mcnabb or pysyk we could get beau bennett or another top winger prospect?

I agree, I think the way the team is set up makes Smith a good goalie because he couldn't handle it with the Lightning.

And honestly I think that's kinda sad when mike smiths contract is pretty bad already. Means rasks contract is really really bad

I value Bobby Ryan more than Vanek considering his entire body of work (more of a natural goal scorer, goes in the corners, better skating, better stick handling), but i agree in the sense that you shouldnt really build around elite wingers.

Two-way Centers, Shutdown Defensemen, and a Goalie are all pieces you build around.
