They probably didn't want to distract from the HOF announcement yesterday; just a guess. - GilPerreault11

Alzner and Carlson deals are outstanding. Those d men are great and great cap hits. both of them combined is about 6.5 million i think so wow.
speaking of great d men it is rumored out there that Alex Pietrangelo has signed a deal with St. Louis. If so it could be 6 years 40 million |

That would be a great deal for St Louis IMO. |

Wonder if there is any sort of rule that stipulates the same player cannot be traded back and forth between two teams for salary retaining purposes. Just an example can't happen with these players now anyway:
Buffalo trades Stafford to Blue's retaining 2 mil
Blue's trades Buffalo Perron
then buffalo trades Perron back to blue's retaining half his contract and getting a 1st and second in 2014?
In effect we traded stafford and money for 2 picks |

Definitely no way that's allowed. It'd be an obvious way of circumventing the cap which is against the rules if memory serves. |

A player may be traded only up to two times where salary, cap hit, or singing bonus is retained.
I'd have to guess that the back and forth thing would be considered a violation of the cap in order to circumvent the cap. |

Garth praising Ristolainen's D work... From that video (didn't see anything else) he god burned on the outside, and then almost got out-muscled and got lucky by turning around and poking the puck away.
Not really what I would call impressive. Not saying he is bad, but based on the video he posted it was totally meh

I'm thinking it is circumventing the cba of course, but the trade a player to be bought out then resign with original team wasn't wrong until the NHL memo that was sent out. maybe first teams doing it gets away with it?
edit: mind you I'm just spitballing and thinking outside the box a bit. |

I couldn't help but laugh at that too haha. Just talked to a friend who was there today and he said Risto got beat outside a couple times, though he thinks (like Garth) that his footwork looked pretty good and that those times where he was beat outside that Risto likely would've shoved the guy into the wall if it was a full contact situation. |

St. Louis now has the cap space to take on Vanek and/or Miller.
Plus they acquired a pick, which is what Reiger likes to get in a deal.
Pietrangelo, Stewart, Bergland/Tarasenko and Elliot/Halak plus 2nd round pick for Vanek and Miller....I think St. Louis is anticipating an offer sheet on Pietrangelo and would like to get a deal done sooner than later.
Question is why Buffalo has not put the offer sheet threat on the desk of St. Louis for Pieterangelo? becasue ST. L would just match the offer (as they did with Vancouver before) and especially now that they have traded some salary away to Edmonton.....then they might offer sheet Hodgson out of spite.
Better to play nice in the sandbox on this one and get the trade done right.
With Luit out of St. L, (and Miller's agent) it would seem that he would praise that city to Miller....it gets Milelr closer to the West Coast for sure; vanek would get closer to Minnesota...contract extensions would need to be worked out before teh deal goes through. |
