if you cant sign him before the start of teh season id trade him for a 2nd round pick straight up
going to be impossible to move that contract at the deadline and i doubt he resigns if he doesnt already - robz228
I might have glasses on here but
If
Myers, stafford, leino, and grigo play closer to their potential and ehrhoff and ennis stay the same or better... and weber is solid...
Keeping miller could be playoffs...
Mayne add girgensons amd risto to that group... |

playing off of what jvince said just now and based on what people have been saying about miller for months.
You want to trade Miller because:
A.) we need to get something for him!
B.) if we keep miller, we will be better and not get a top pick and we want that top pick!
my only problem with B is that most people seem to hate miller and think he sucks, why would keeping him be worse than playing enroth. by that logic, wouldn't enroth end up being better and we would win more? |

I'm surprised that Ennis hasn't been mentioned in many trade rumors, he could always be an extra piece added to a deal. I don't know if I'm more worried about the Vanek/Miller situation or the Byrd situation..... |

We might be an 8th place team. Which isn't cutting it any longer. We still need another 2 top 6 forwards, a 3rd line center (which could be Larsson when he's ready) and another 2 top 4 D men. |

That was the fill in the blanks...
Girgensons as 3c... leino and stafford or foligno as the other top 6 forward..
Myers, ehrhoff, weber, and risto as our solid top 4 guys... |

Those are all either rookies or big question marks. Also I wouldn't even call Stafford or Leino a top 6 forward at this point until he proves otherwise |

I think they will be, just not right away. Realistically guys like Girgensons, Armia, Ristolainen are 3-4 years away from truly being in their prime and ready to be the core of this team. If Myers plays well and Stafford scores 25 and we keep Vanek and Miller, this team can make the playoffs, but they will be ousted in the 1st round. IMO we have a head start on this rebuild. Grigorenko and Hodgson should be a good 1-2 center punch if they both continue to improve. We possibly have a franchise defensemen, we might even have 2, we still are lacking in forward depth and goaltending depth, without Miller every goalie in the system is hit or miss |

If I knew for sure Miller and Vanek were not coming back next year, I'd want to trade Miller before the season starts. It's going to be very hard to deal him at the draft. Goalies just usually aren't the deadline deal that a contending team goes after. They wouldn't be a contending team if they didn't already have somewhat solid goaltending. Vanek I think we could keep until the deadline. He would likely be the best available offensive weapon and could fetch a Pominville-like return. |

I agree I just think the philosophy could bite you in the ass with Vanek. If you have decided that you are gonna move someone, you move them before they have the chance to injure themselves or even play themselves out of a trade. |

Miller and enroth in buffalo and hackett and makarov in rochester is pretty good in my book...
I agree that our rebuild is off to a good start.. I think that grigorenko needs to be our 1c no later then after this coming season.
I hope that armia becomes a top line player and I think thag girgensons and foligno are 2nd line players as well...
A key to this is also having vets around... vanek amd stafford and leino aren't the leader type that I want... I want steve ott to be extended... and a guy like dustin brown to be added...
Our d corps has plenty of captain matedial and former captains in myers, pysyk, mcnabb, mccabe, and zadorov... I don't think risto was a captain |

I definitely agree and I would be in favor of moving both before the season. I'm just saying Vanek could become more desirable at the deadline. As you stated, however, he could hurt himself or play himself into a less desirable position as well. I think if the team wants Vanek to re-sign maybe they hold on to him and if he sees the kids come together and we are better than expected he might think we're closer than he thinks we are. |

By all accounts Ott wants to be here. He will probably re-sign for as long as his bro from another mo is here. |

I think Vanek would be the best player available for a rental at the deadline and we would get top value for him (if healthy). To maximize Miller's value we would need a contender to have injuries in the goalie position and kind of force their hand. |

Darcy could end up really (frank)ing himself here with Vanek (not that I don't want him fired) could you imagine if Vanek plays really well, has 25-30 goals around the deadline and this team is in position to possibly make the playoffs? IF Darcy trades him he gets blasted for ruining our chances, if he keeps him and we get bounced in the 1st round or miss the playoffs, Vanek most likely walks for nothing. IMO it could end up being a lose/lose with him |

Agreed, and I think that is not a realistic thing to expect. That's why I'd deal Miller now if he isn't in the future plans. |

I agree on both... vanek will easily be the biggest target at the deadline but you have to make sure that these players are playing for purpose and not knowing it is a loser ssason...
I think vanek could get us a young star and a 1st easily... even more than pommer got...
We can still hope for kuzentov and a 1st right?
Maybe florida trades one of their 2 budding star centers not named barkov?
But the conteders of pitt, philly, bost, nyr, chi, la, and stl are still the most likely imo. What we get though idk... |

That's definitely possible too. If I were Darcy I'd move them both before the season and if we are epically bad so be it. Just means we get a better draft pick. |

I get the feeling that the arbitration ruling for Stewart will be a deciding factor in trading Miller. And that is if ST Louuis is really interested. |

Stewart is definitely the kind of player that would fit the 'tough to play against' mold. I know he isn't always consistent scoring, but I think he is consistently tough. |

Ya... and we know how darcg seems to think we r a contender at the deadline when we don't...
Miller to tb, stl, or col seem the most likely to me.
Outside of stastny.. I would take a nice package from colorado with parenteau or mcginn plus draft picks for miller |

A guy like Stastny worries me. His production seemed to decline alot lately. Plus, if that was Sacco's fault, I'd rule Buffalo out as a place for him to ressurect his stats. |

His stats were bound to decline when you have Duchene and ROR taking all the good linemates. |
