The point is that the team name is the Flyers - plural. It's fine to use Flyer when talking about one member of the team. It's not fine to name a team after something singular, at least not in my opinion. Doesn't really matter if it's a real thing or something made up, just needs to be plural if it is a team name.
- BringBack25

I agree with that. Although a lot of the time (i.e. Wild and Avs) making some names plural sound even weirder. Are you gonna have the Minnesota Wilds? The Colorado Avalanches? But I agree that the plural thing sounds better. Christian posted a comparison of the Phoenix Suns and Connecticut Sun.

but i agree, she isnt a vocal phenom by any means

God I hate that part... it sounds like she loses sync w/ the music for a bar or two... it might be more the musical arrangement than her, but it's so distractingly awful I have to hit mute when she sings.

She's nice looking, but I prefer Kate Smith

A team named after him?

I think a team in Portland would have to be named something hipster. Like the Portland Ninja Turtles

I think she's good. Perhaps not the best in the world or anything (although, surprisingly she was voted as the best Anthem singer in NHL history in a 2005 Hockey News poll). But I really like the fact that she has ties to the team through her father and is still able to sing like she does after beating cancer.

Also pretty cool that it was her version of the Anthem used in the film Miracle.

Kind of beating this thing to death, but IMO Gagne helps the team in many more ways than Hall does. They could be mutually exclusive due to contract limits, so that's the reason why I was questioning the Hall signing.

Your original point is about being forced into roster decisions on both Laughton and Gagne due to the 50 contract limit.

"I have a bigger problem with them giving Yann Danis (and to a lesser extent, Adam Hall) a contract slot that could mean them losing Simon Gagne and/or being forced into a decision with Laughton over slide purposes due to being up against the 50-limit yet again."

I disagree that the Hall and Danis contracts are forcing roster decisions right now. The ridiculous amount of money they have committed to defense is the reason Gagne isn't signed yet. If they lose Gagne to another team it will be because they were unable to clear salary on an overloaded blueline, rather than the modest contracts given to Hall and Danis. And if Laughton forces them to keep him in camp, they are not going to be "forced" to slide his contract "due to being up against the 50 contract limit." They will waive Hall and he will either get claimed or he can be assigned to Phantoms without counting against the cap. They're not at 50 contracts in either case. In no way does the 50 contract limit, Yann Danis, or Adam Hall force a decision on either player.

Texas Racist sounds better.

Although that kind of rhymes with rapist, and we may not want to go there.

Portland used to have a team that was the Rosebuds back in the 20's. Not sure that would fly in today's NHL.

But you can't hold a whole team responsible for the behavior of a sick twisted singer. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the Wells Fargo Center? And if the whole WFC is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of the NHL in general? I put it to you, 'Hawk - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

I dunno, if they were a good team they could change the perception of the Rosebud to be badass. I mean, I guess the name Rosebud isn't all that bad.
