. @jsaquella @capgeek I think Raffl was going to make the #Flyers regardless the length of his contract. I was told he compares to Brunner.

Interesting.

I would assume Quebec City would be the second option, but Kansas City has been mentioned before.
- ravishingone

Honestly I don't know why. Quebec, Seattle, Portland, Markham, Victoria, and Hamilton would all be better options than Kansas City.

Team's already financially unstable. Kovy retiring may be the straw

that allows the club to make sure it's players get their paychecks on time.

- Moose_15

The team should've left NJ for Nashville back in the 90's, but Governess Whitless let them stay with a helping of *our* money.

I'm game if it means Rosehill won't play

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
Schenn - Lecavalier - Simmonds
Gagne - Couturier - Read
Raffl - Talbot - Rinaldo

would be interesting, sorta feel like Seattle that Portland was just a pawn for the NHL to keep them on Phoenix

Rosehill is the new Shelley. He wasn;t going to play much anyhow. At least he's a lot cheaper.

Any perceived contradiction can be directly attributed to you trying to put words in my mouth... I never advocated dealing youth for vets... I only mentioned those deals as a counterpoint to your statement that teams with championship aspirations are better off being at 50-contracts/against the Cap, when there is ample evidence that shows that the contrary is actually the case.
- Tomahawk

You specifically posted the deals that the Pens and Chicago made as examples why the Flyers need to keep contract slots open.
Teams with Championship aspirations, at the end of the Season should use all their Cap space. Absolutely.
And if need be I'll provide the link to the post where I clearly stated that a team that might be looking to make moves to bolster the lineup, at the deadline, should leave a few slots open.
While a team that is a young developing team, should use all their contract slots to try build up the prospect pool.

The Flyers are a team that currently should be trying to acquire all the young talent they can.

those two cities (and Vancouver) have a great rivalry. Would love to see two teams end up there.

A big part of it is the Escrow and cap, combined with taxes.

The rules there are fast and loose and a guy like Kovalchuk can go there, get $10mm or more a year, without seeing 10% of it go into escrow, have a Russian oil tycoon find him tax shelters and other devices so he keeps the bulk of his cash and he'll be revered as a hero for playing at home.

- Jsaquella

I'm surprised no one's mentioned Putin in this at all. Wasn't he trying to lure Russian NHL'ers to the KHL during the NHL lockout? First, he gets a Patriots' Super Bowl ring. Now he wants all the Russian hockey players back in Russia. It's insatiable lust only a dictatorship can sate.

In 3 years, maybe Seattle will be added as one of the destined expansion teams, and then in 5 years maybe Phoenix will relocate to Portland. My dream is a feasible scenario!

I keep seeing US and Canadian media saying that Kovalchuk is actually doing the Devils a solid.

Stuff like "The financially strapped team doesn't have to pay him now" and in the long run it's a good thing...I don't see it.

They lose their best offensive player, they missed out on the cream of a weak FA crop, they lose their most marketable player and they already have attendance troubles.

Also, over the past several years, they have had several guys leave to "go back home". Kovalchuk, Rafalski, Parise...it's not an attractive scenario

- Jsaquella

It's probably the Devils' silly dress and grooming code that has worn out the players there.

Whereas, here we have:

They need to get under the cap prior to the season...if they can get anyone to take Meszaros' deal, I'd be amazed if he's not moved.
