They can keep Laughton and still add Gagne if they want to. You need to have a goaltender that you can call up as a backup from the AHL level. Danis fits that bill. And signing Hall was a key signing in my opinion. It's going to make the Flyers a better team. And it's going to make players on the Flyers, better players.

Isn't that what Cal Heeter is for? They called him up late last year for that very purpose.

If they need an AHL starter, why not just do what they did w/ Scott Munroe last year? AHL deal, no impact on the NHL roster. If the nightmare scenario happens where you lose both NHL goalies to injury, you still have an open contract slot to trade for/sign a guy who can step in (like Joey MacDonald did for the Flames).

As for Hall, I'd rather have Gagne over Hall any day of the week and twice on Sundays. They may be mutually exclusive at this point b/c of the contract limit.

he had a few in that series. and just in general, the guy is a fan of just acting like hes jumping a hurdle every time he has to check. and hes not that small of a guy where its like he grossly needs to overcompensate for size.

like i said, id be the last one to defend neal and his roaming elbows either.

for the record, i dont think either is in the extremely dirty realm, like how matt cooke used to kind of deal.

but they are both fairly unnecessarily reckless with their body for such skilled players.

If one of the Goalie misses a month, do you want Heeter sitting on the bench for a month? It's the same complaints every year. That's all about nothing. Every year, the Flyers are going to have a goaltender that they can call up as a backup in case of an injury. And it doesn't hurt anything. Much ado about nothing.

The problem with wanting Gagne over Hall is that you're just comparing player to player. Instead of what each player will do for the team. And the role they'll be in. And how that affects the entire team.

haha hey. thats a very nice, totally unbiased opinion youve got there

Neal isn't new to the league. Neal has been around and has a history with dangerous hits. As far as hitting goes, James Neal reminds me Coby Armstrong early in his career. Total head hunter. Then you add Kunitz, Cooke. Crosby and Malkin get dirty when things aren't going their way. Then Pens implode when they are getting out muscled.

What is not to like? He is the perfect 4th line guy. Plays any forward position. Plays PK. Will fight if have to. Hard worker. Not a bad skater. Good defensively and on draws. Kind of like Blair Betts with better skating and fighting and slightly less defense.

Ha!

It would be nice if Maxime Talbot was able to win faceoffs like Hall, because really, that's the reason Hall has a roster slot. It really is -- Hall fills a niche that teams don't realize they need until you can't play your fourth line in tied games because they will lose the draw.

I can see both sides of the debate -- Simon Gagne is a better player than Adam Hall. But Adam Hall does one thing really, really well -- and that one thing is something the Flyers really need.

With the signings of Hall and Rosehill. I think Laughton spends the year in the AHL. Which is not a bad thing, Hall and Rosehill are both at 6'2+/210+ and add experience and size on the 4th line. They both played fine at the end of last year.

I also think Homer signed these guys as potential replacements for Talbot. If he has to move him to upgrade the defense.

The NHL ’14 video game is about to hit the market, with Marty Brodeur on the cover.

Three players from NHL ’94 are still active in this year’s release…

Who are they?

no cheating

Laughton cannot play in the AHL this year. He either has to play for the Flyers, or go back to Juniors. He is not eligible to play in the AHL. This has been discussed many times. There is an age requirement in the AHL.

I really wish Simon Gagne would sign somewhere else so this nonsense would end.

The Flyers are stacked with bottom-6 forwards. Depth is great, but you have to choose your contracts wisely.

I'd rather they do what they can to keep Pronger off LTIR, rather than adding to that problem by adding more unnecessary veterans. You can always add guys later in the season if the need arises.

Good Lord. Martin Brodeur has been tormenting me for not quite half of my life.

Wow. No athlete in any sport -- not Emmitt Smith/Troy Aikman/Michael Irvin, not Larry Bird, not Greg Maddux/John Smoltz/Tom Glavine, have tormented me like that guy.

That guy...man.

Yeah, it was Heeter last season, and he's still around this year. Even for a month, if he's getting daily practice against NHL shooters, that would be as good for his development as sitting on the bench behind Danis (or whoever) in ADK.

As for Hall, I'd would have rather gone w/ the options they already under contract in Laughton/Holmstrom/Newbury to hold down the 4th-line spot, then re-sign Gagne to an affordable deal. Hall's not going to be able to play an expanded role, move up and down the lineup, and contribute on the PP like Gagne can. He can take 300-400 faceoffs at 60% for the year, but Gagne is much more versatile and productive.

Yes, of course... I just meant he's not going to be with the big boys - unless he has an outstanding camp.

And, I forgot to add... Hill and Gagne aren't needed for the same role. Gagne, despite the fact he could play the 4th line very well... He won't be put there. And, Hill won't be placed on lines 1-3, unless a whole bunch of injuries force the issue.

A bottom 6 of Gagne-Couturier-Read AND Talbot-Hall-Rinaldo is pretty damn good IMO.

Definitely one of the best bottom 6s in the league.
