Now that Kovy has retired (IMO ridiculous), does MacT approach them and dangle Hemmer? If I was him, I'd be targeting Steve Bernier... Now that seems like a huge overpayment, admittedly, but I'm thinking organizational need. 3rd line checking winger who has put up decent point numbers in the past, would be a French speaking companion to Perron (Bernier is from Quebec City I believe), and would at the very least offer an alternative to Ben Eager. Maybe if EDM goes hemsky and a 5/6th to NJ for Bernier and a 2/3rd? Just an idea on how to fill the roster holes.

so if they DONT terminate his contract, his rights remain NJ's and he certainly cant play in the nhl without going through them first...
this also is the case for the K, but we've seen them basically say fuk you in the past.

what about salary, cap issues etc? does this change their recapture penalty? are they goona be forced to pay him anything if they retain the contract? etc

As far as i know if they don't terminate his deal, his contract would just be sitting in limbo. No salary or cap issues.

Then again poop like this has never come down so I could be wrong, but from what I gather as of today that's how it would go.
