As far as i know if they don't terminate his deal, his contract would just be sitting in limbo. No salary or cap issues.

Then again poop like this has never come down so I could be wrong, but from what I gather as of today that's how it would go.

hmmm.

then don't terminate the fukin thing. make it as hard as possible to sign elsewhere.
even if the K did say fuk you, the IIHF can bar him from playing in international events for a clear violation of the N-K agreement. (although ive read an article that K officials think the new cba is open to contract termination)
and of course coming back to the nhl is a couple years would be the big one.

let it sit in limbo for a couple years and revisit it if he goes to lou and says he'd like to play again.

They should grab Hemsky from us and then convince Jagr to sign there to make an all Czech line. As of right now it looks like they're going to be forfeiting the 1st overall pick next year.

I seem to recall you being awfully critical of MacT and his non-moves just a few weeks back. Cloutier, you are hot and cold dude. Pick a side will ya!

You state that Oilers won the Horcoff trade.......not if he ends up with a 50-60 pt. season they don't (and don't count him out....he did it before).

If Hemsky had any real value, they would have dealt him already. I'm afraid to say I think they are stuck with him.

All of what you write sounds good but when Tambo was hired there was lot's of hope and promise then too. The Oilers will only be better if they are better. On that we will have to wait and see.

- MadManPaddy

Good for Horcoff if he does but it wasn't going to happen here. He needed a change of scenery and we needed to rid ourselves of his cap hit. A week ago everyone was saying that we need to buyout Horcoff. Well now MacT saved the real money, the cap hit, and got 2 small assets in return instead. He did a great job trading an untradeable contract

I don't see the Devils finishing last or near it. They were a pretty solid team last year that suffered from some bad shooting luck and crappy goaltending. they traded for Schneider and signed some forwards that can score (ryder) and now they opened up cap space. Kovy's good but he's not dominant offensively anymore and he's not a great two-way player. Losing Elias would be a bigger blow to NJ imo.

That's pretty ridiculous haha. Kovy's great but they get his contract off the books and he's entering the stage where he's declining yearly.

So pretty much the Oiler boards every day?

Greg Wyshynski ‏@wyshynski 7m
Hey, so what will Kovalchuk make with SKA in the KHL? Hows about $20M per season? That's the speculation.

Kovi could be a dominate offensive weapon, but they make him play 2-way hockey.

There is a reason he played 5 minutes more a game than anyone else last year.

My sources tell me that the Devils are looking to suck Brad Boyes into the bowels of hell. Boyes looking for a 5 year deal.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 40m
1. Mutual (player and club agree) termination of an NHL contract not that unusual but usually involves lower-profile players.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 33m
2. If NJ had so chosen, it could've blocked Kovalchuk from the KHL by tolling contract. But NJ isn't doing that, he's free to go to KHL.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 31m
3. Kovalchuk doesn't get paid anything (by NJ) and Devils don't get cap hit other than a modest $250K/year penalty for each of next 12 years

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 28m
4. NJ will miss Kovallchuk on ice in the short term but long-term gain is getting out from under long-term financial obligation.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 2m
5. Kovalchuk is, at face value, leaving $77M on the table but he'll get that, and then some if he chooses, in the KHL.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 1m
6. When all is said and done, as big a short-term hole as Kovalchuk's departure leaves in NJ, it's a divorce of convenience for both sides..

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie 26s
7. Finally, as my mother used to tell me, it's nice to have options. Okay, back to vacation.

Something tells me if McKenzie has all that info so quickly while on holidays that he isn't surprised. As if he pre-wrote these while working at the draft.

Did that game work for you?

I'd like to play one where you can either play as Jason or you can play as the person being hunted... They would be so (frank)ing awesome.
