Theoretically, what stops Nathan MacKinnon from signing an ELC, retiring, signing in Russia, playing 1 game, and heading back to NA as a free agent??

He'd miss the first month of his career in transit for the right to play for whatever team he wanted, right?

- Morris

Pretty (frank)ed up but there is nothing that could prevent that from happening.

Yet you think Penner and Hemsky will be better in that role?? and Gilbert will make our D so much better?

I just...I mean...I dont even.....wut??

I don't think 3rd line needs to be a shut down line. The first line played toughest comp this year and succeeded. Also, Gordon and Hemsky have played and are capable of playing toughs anyways. Jones belongs the farthest thing from a shut down line.

Gilbert's an upgrade on the bottom pairing. He's a #4 D man IMO. Was more when he played for EDM. I'll take Gilbert over Potter, N Schultz, Ference.

Sure, but what's that new deal about long-term deals all about?

That's $250,000 cap penalty for Kovalchuk's retirement as part of cap recapture penalties for each season until '24-25, per @capgeek

I never said EDM's 3rd line should be shut down, but the people that did and want Jones to be on it, are sadly mistaken

contrary to popular belief, hemsky is not afraid to take hits and get dirty, but he's not a physical player, nor plays tough.

gilbert is NOT better than ference.

he was demoted to a 3rd pairing on a team with a decent at best defence. and played low mins in the playoffs. he is not a #4.

In all fairness if you don't terminate the contract I'd think the player is (frank)ed.
- Lahey

That's not a precedent I'd like to see. 1st overall holdouts while a cap floor team pays them to wait until they work out a trade

Now that would be (frank)ing funny. It's nice how he retires before they lose the pick for his (frank)ing contract.

Last year he actually pissed off a lot of Russians in his assertions that he is a Tatar first, Russian second.

He doesn't seem to be that interested in playing in Russia.
