I bet Lou makes some sort of trade that lands them a 1st round pick this year |

That's fine, they still won't have their own and the first round in Philly will only have 29 picks total.
Compare that to what the Flyers gave up for 2 years of Pronger only the Flyers have to deal with LTIR for the next 4 years and the NJD don't. - phillydentist
Any trade will look bad if the player suffers a freak injury that ends their career. It's not the same as trying to give a want-away Russian a 17 year cap-circumventing contract that was so shameless the league took away draft picks as punishment. |

just kinda bored so looking at previous drafts and as much praise as 03 and 98 gets, the 79 draft is pretty crazy. 81.7% of the players drafted that year played in the NHL. |

Technically, if they finish dead last they would have the 30th overall pick which in most years would be considered a low first rounder. |

Your post made me go look that draft up.
7 teams passed on Raymond Bourque. The first pick of the draft was defenseman Rob Ramage.
Perhaps a lesson here..... |

Best thing that came from that movie, besides Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones' roles. - feelingkettle
Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me is my favorite thing from that movie, but your picks are right after my #1. |

If I were a Devils fan, I'd be annoyed that my team plays in Newark, NJ.
But I digress.
I'm sure if Lou really knew what Kovalchuk was up to at the time they had to forfeit a #1 draft pick, surely he would have given that one up.
Kovalchuk put the team in a bind, for sure. The fact is, there are no rules governing that sort of thing and frankly, I doubt Lou was, in any way, complicit. - johndewar
Of course but one could argue even if they won the cup in 13 or 14, the pick would have been 1 higher. I'd take my chances that my picks in 13 and 14 were probably going to be lower. but that is me |

If they finish dead last wouldn't they have the last pick of the 2nd round?

I'm pretty sure they got it from him. Gandhi also co-wrote a couple Spice Girls songs, specifically, 2 become 1. - feelingkettle
I heard he also wrote, Hungy like a fox too. |

I think it would be interesting if the NHL went to a snake draft. |

Not really. It is one of the best crafted pop songs ever. It's not my favorite but I can respect its stellar songwriting. |

I love U2 but that song is definitely atypical U2. Originally written for Zooroopa in 1993, I'm glad it got delayed 2 years so it could be perfected for the soundtrack. |

Being a Flyers fan, we are in no position to gloat over another organization's bad/unfortunate moves/contracts. We gave up essentially 4 first rd picks for 2 years of Pronger and still have to accomodate his cap hit with LTIR for four more years. We paid an average goalie $39M for less than 2 full seasons of mediocre work. |
