Read that wrong. I thought you said you would say no.
There is no way in HELL the Rangers would even contemplate a deal like that. - jak521
Well exactly. Just the point that, for the right (insane) package, I'd trade anyone on the Flyers to any team...except maybe Calgary as they are now. |

Comparing Morin to Pronger is unfair, and puts a lot of undo pressure on the kid. Let him be himself. I hope he's given ample time to develop, and not rushed to the NHL where he will be devoured if he's not ready by uneducated fans, and media alike.
If you look at things realistically, it's more likely (and by a significant margin) that Morin is Chris Therien, then he is Chris Pronger. Something in between would be just fine. - PLindbergh31
I'd be delighted to see him falling somewhere in between Mike Komisarek and Tyler Myers. Just having a huge, rangy, fearsome presence on the blueline should be enough of a boon... it's kind of crazy how people are half-expecting him to put up significant offense, too. |

Yup. A physical presence with mobility. Offense would be a bonus. |

Bill, did you chime in yesterday anywhere about Kovalchuk's retirement? I'd love to know what you think about it specifically and whether or not there might be more Russian/European players departing in the near future. |

You are not misremembering. And, yes, if Morin remains right around his current level two years from now, I will become concerned that he may not have the puck skills that even defensive defensemen in today's NHL need to have. - bmeltzer
Yeah, next couple of seasons in Rimouski will be telling about Morin's offensive upside... if he stagnates/regresses, we might have to start worrying about whether he has the baseline aptitude to play in the NHL. |

Based on his size and smooth skating ability, as well as his general bull-in-china shop mentality, I'd be hard pressed to believe that he at the very least wouldn't be a 3rd pairing 14 minutes a night shut down defense man.
But definitely agree that his next two seasons should be a good indicator. |

Exactly. This was not a top 5 pick. Expecting him to be the next Chris Pronger is ludicrous. Sure we can all dream, but don't put those expectations on the kid. If he becomes a 3-4 shutdown dman I'll be ecstatic! Having a guy like this come up through the system (the cap friendly way) is what this team desperately needs. I truly believe that if Morin and Hagg are productively playing in the Flyers top 4 five years from now that is the best case scenario. |

That was the worst-case scenario laid out for Parent, too, until it turned out that he didn't think the game well enough to even stand out defensively as a pro, in addition to being an utter black-hole on the attack and in transition. |

People (read: Flyers fans) need to let it go with Chris Pronger (and, to a degree, Shea Weber).
That'd go a long way, with respect to having reasonable expectations for this kid. |

Just checked the QMJHL schedule. Rimouski comes to Halifax Jan 18. Unfortunatly, I will be in Florida on Jan 18. |

Depends. Many of us debated Simmonds for Edler during the latter stages of the playoffs when VanCity was looking to retool. So obviously a top defenseman would be the target. From NYR? Again, depending on other offers, it would take a lot more to pry a gritty power forward with above average hands from a division rival like the Flyers would be to the Rangers. He hits, he wins board battles, he scores goals and he's one of our more consistent forwards.
I have a huge hockey crush on Callahan though. So Simmonds for Callahan straight up. |

not trading captain cally but you said edler, maybe a package that starts with del zotto, i know he's not edler but he's very young and in a more offensive system he can flourish, i'm not saying strait up but it could be a start |

Certainly could be a start. Like I said I think it would most importantly depend on the offers of other teams. If I'm the Flyers, and the Rangers say we will give you DZ, a decent prospect and a 3rd, before anything I make phone calls to the however many non-division teams and see what they offer. For the Rangers to get a player like Simmonds from a division rival, it would have to be a nice chunk of change more than a non-division team I'd say. |

Weber was also only 190 lbs. when drafted. Really filled out, which helped him become the player he is today. - bradleyc4
Serious question... who do you think will be the better player?
Morin or Haag? |

MDZ would be a good place to start. But really, it would have to be an overpayment to move him to NYR. Maybe MDZ, Hagelin, and JT Miller. Heck, short of one of Callahan/Lundqvist/McDonaugh coming back, I don't know if there is a package big enough. |
